Marvel and Star Wars will officially share a story for the first time in 2027, with a limited comic-book event bringing characters from both Disney-owned franchises into the same universe.
Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed on August 11 that Marvel Comics is developing Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a five-issue series. Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi will travel to Earth-616, the primary reality used in most Marvel stories, where they will encounter Black Widow, Captain America, the Hulk and other Marvel heroes.
The story will also bring together villains from both worlds. Doctor Doom and Darth Vader are expected to form part of the opposing alliance in this unusual meeting between the Marvel and Star Wars universes.
Kevin Smith writes Hope Assembles
The five-part event is scheduled for 2027, the same year that Star Wars celebrates its 50th anniversary. Filmmaker Kevin Smith is writing the series, following earlier comic-book work on titles including Daredevil and Batman. David Marquez will serve as the lead artist.
Smith has explained that he grew up reading Marvel’s Star Wars comics in the early 1980s and once imagined Marvel characters such as Spider-Man and Doctor Doom appearing alongside the film series’ heroes. He said the chance to finally tell that kind of story made him eager to write the anniversary project, while thanking Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm for the opportunity to bring together the Falcon and the Quinjet.
A New Hope reaches Earth-616
The event’s premise places the original Star Wars film directly inside Marvel’s main continuity. After a spell fractures reality, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will witness the events of A New Hope unfolding on Earth.

The first issue is planned for January 2027, with one new instalment released each month. The fifth and final issue is scheduled for May 2027.
