Guardians of the Galaxy arrives on Switch 2 in November

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on 5 November. The original game debuted in 2021 and earned strong critical praise, but its sales reportedly fell well short of expectations. Square Enix previously said that launch sales were below its initial forecast.

The Encore Edition retains the same single-player space adventure. Players take control of Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord, and guide the Guardians through combat, missions and environmental puzzles. The team includes Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot, with the group’s relationships playing an important role throughout the journey.

A character-driven cosmic adventure

Choices involving the Guardians influence how the team responds to Peter and to one another. Treating the group well can lead to more meaningful exchanges and moments where teammates begin to act with greater initiative during gameplay.

That focus on team chemistry was one of the game’s most praised qualities. Groot may eventually create a bridge without being prompted, while Rocket can take the initiative when interacting with electronic systems. These small touches connect the characters’ developing relationships with what happens during play.

What the Encore Edition adds

The Switch 2 release features refreshed graphics optimised for Nintendo’s newer console. It also adds new outfits for Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot. The costumes draw on 1980s glam-rock styling, giving the returning team a distinct new look.

The game is listed at a reduced preorder price of $35.99 until 5 November. After that date, the price rises to $39.99. Buyers should check the retailer listing for current Australian availability and pricing before ordering.
