Mafia: The Old Country’s Free Ride Gets a Major Expansion

Mafia: The Old Country is about to give its open world a stronger reason to exist. The upcoming Man of Honor expansion adds new activities and story content to Free Ride, bringing the Sicilian setting closer to the more eventful open worlds seen in Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Sicily worked especially well as the backdrop for the game’s linear single-player campaign. At launch, however, Explore mode felt comparatively sparse, with few meaningful distractions beyond the main story. Hangar 13 addressed some of that criticism with last November’s Free Ride update, and Man of Honor continues that effort.

Salieri opens up new activities in Sicily

A gameplay overview for the expansion explains how Salieri, a returning character with an important role in its new story chapters, also introduces much of the additional open-world content. Players can take jobs from him, unlocking side quests designed to reveal more of Sicily beyond the main narrative.

Salieri’s activities extend beyond traditional side missions. His available challenges include standoffs, assassinations, circuit races, time trials and road sprints, all distributed across the Free Ride map.

Players who prefer to explore independently can still track down outlaws, attempt stunt jumps and earn Dinari throughout Sicily. That currency can be spent unlocking weapons, charms, vehicles and outfits for Enzo.

A more useful open world for Mafia fans

The narrative campaign remains Mafia: The Old Country’s clearest strength, but the steady expansion of Free Ride makes the wider map more appealing. Man of Honor adds two new story chapters alongside its open-world activities, giving players more reasons to return after completing the main adventure.

These additions do not aim for the scale of an upcoming release such as Grand Theft Auto 6. They do, however, make Mafia: The Old Country a more convincing choice for players looking for a story-focused crime game while waiting for the next Grand Theft Auto, due in November.
