Streamer Ludwig Ahgren has taken on an unexpected role in the Chinese historical FMV game Road to Empress II: a blonde-wigged envoy from the fictional Kingdom of Fuling.

The game’s developers announced the cameo on 29 July 2026, inviting players to complete the main story, select “Attend Court” from the home screen and follow the relevant event prompts to meet Ludwig in Sheng’an. The announcement asked whether the Empress would allow him to sample her osmanthus soup.

Special Update: Ludwig from the Kingdom of Fuling has arrived in Sheng’an today! Will he be granted a taste of the Empress’s osmanthus soup? The choice is yours!

Online reaction quickly focused on the costume, the wig and the sheer oddness of seeing a familiar streamer dropped into a palace drama. Jokes compared the scene to a Chinese buffet visit, food delivery and the results of a few language lessons, while another post mixed Japanese and Chinese phrases for comic effect.

A cameo built from a livestream

The collaboration was not entirely out of nowhere. Ludwig previously streamed the first Road to Empress, and the developers thanked him after he played it. He then asked whether he could appear in future content. That request eventually produced the Fuling envoy role, complete with an intentionally conspicuous shake-and-go hairstyle.

Ludwig has embraced the joke rather than resisting it. He shared behind-the-scenes photographs from the production, described the pictures as “insane” and posted that it was surprising his request had actually worked.

“It’s crazy this worked.”

He also jokingly asked Wikipedia to use one of the images as his official portrait. That good-natured participation helped turn the cameo into a broader social-media punchline, with viewers sharing clips of Ludwig delivering Chinese dialogue and reciting a tongue twister.

Why the cameo stands out

Road to Empress II leans into historical palace drama: elaborate period clothing, court politics, rival concubines and the struggle for influence around the emperor. Ludwig’s deliberately incongruous appearance makes him feel less like a conventional celebrity cameo and more like a surprise arcade attract-mode character dropped into the wrong cabinet.

There is also a language joke at the centre of the scene. Social-media commenters have mocked Ludwig’s pronunciation, although the story gives the character a reason to struggle: he comes from a distant kingdom and apparently does not speak the local language fluently.

The series has attracted criticism from some players over the use of generative AI in parts of the game, including its ending. That disappointment is especially sharp for fans seeking a polished interactive version of the Chinese historical-drama formula: palace intrigue, assassination attempts, shifting alliances and a climb towards power in the imperial harem.

For now, Ludwig’s cameo offers a much lighter diversion. Whether players arrive for the court drama or simply to watch a streamer attempt a Chinese tongue twister, the Fuling envoy has become one of the game’s most memorable talking points.
