Lucía, the formidable table-tennis Champion from Wii Sports Resort, is back in Switch Sports Resort. Players are already finding that earning a point against her can be an exhausting task.

Lucía’s rise from average to unbeatable

Lucía has appeared as a Mii throughout the Wii sports series. In the original Wii Sports, she was a fairly ordinary athlete, but Wii Sports Resort gave her a much more intimidating role. She became the Champion in table tennis—the final non-player opponent players had to overcome before mastering the event.

That history made the initial absence of Miis from Switch Sports Resort particularly disappointing for some fans when the game was announced in June. Wuhu Island appeared to have been taken over by Sportsmates, the avatars that largely replaced Miis in Nintendo Switch Sports. Some fans even described the change as the island being “colonized” by Sportsmates.

Miis eventually returned in a limited capacity. Players can raise the frequency of Mii non-player characters until they effectively take the place of Sportsmates. More importantly, the familiar Champions from Wii Sports Resort are also back—including Lucía.

Every point comes at a price

Lucía’s return has prompted a wave of clips and complaints from players struggling to score against her. One fast-paced October 22, 2026 clip shows the frantic effort involved in winning just one point.

For returning players, the Champion’s appearance has brought back memories of the Wii era. The welcome has not been universal, however, with one October 23 reaction expressing considerably more frustration than affection.

The question of whether Lucía can actually be beaten has also reached the Nintendo Switch Sports community. Some players reported victories, while others used the discussion to share their own losses and complaints.

A genuinely physical challenge

One player said they played Lucía for more than an hour, then applied a compress and went to bed. A separate Japanese-language post described using a compress before sleeping while still dealing with considerable pain in the right arm. That player also said they had not played the previous game and were surprised by the strong reaction to their training clip.

The response is a useful reminder that motion-controlled sports can be more physically demanding than their straightforward presentation suggests. It also places Switch Sports Resort neatly among the approachable, competitive games discussed in RETROCADE’s arcade and gaming news.

Players preparing for another attempt will need patience, timing and perhaps a sensible break between matches. Lucía’s Champion status has returned intact, and so has her reputation for making every rally count.
