Lego and Nintendo are expanding their Super Mario partnership with a new range of traditional-style minifigures planned for 2027. The announcement follows six years of Super Mario construction sets and addresses a long-running request from fans.
Super Mario gets the minifigure treatment
The first preview appeared in March, showing Mario climbing out of a Warp Pipe in a recognisable minifigure design. His head is shaped differently from Lego’s familiar cylindrical minifigure heads, reflecting the character’s distinctive proportions.
Until now, most Lego Super Mario characters have used the squat, blocky format associated with the interactive Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach figures. Their unusual bodies resemble two Super Mario Question Blocks stacked together rather than standard Lego minifigures.
The collaboration has also produced larger character builds, including a brick-built Mario bundled with a standard Mario Kart vehicle and a pixel-art recreation of Mario and Yoshi.
What could be included?
The 2027 line gives Lego Super Mario displays a different scale and opens up more possibilities for custom scenes. Unconfirmed information shared through the Bricktap Discord server suggests the first wave could include Luigi, a larger Bowser BigFig and Yoshi with a removable shell that allows another minifigure to ride on its back.
Those details have not been officially confirmed. Existing brick-built Super Mario characters include Wario, Captain Toad, Bowser Jr. and Boo, while numerous classic enemies have also been recreated in Lego form.
Nintendo and Lego have already made minifigure versions of characters from Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda. Bringing Mario and his supporting cast into the format is nevertheless a new direction for this particular partnership.
A busy year for Nintendo and Lego
The companies’ 2026 projects include a Lego Donkey Kong arcade machine set, a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Final Battle set, and a Mario Kart set featuring Luigi and the Mach 8.
Lego’s Pokémon range has also expanded significantly, with more than 20 sets released during 2026. Why the format matters
The interactive Super Mario figures remain central to Lego’s play-focused system, but standard minifigures are easier to combine with other Lego scenes and collections. A conventional figure scale could therefore make it simpler for fans to build larger Mario dioramas or mix Nintendo characters across different displays.
