Disney has revealed a scripted Kingdom Hearts television series for Disney+ and Disney Channel during its D23 presentation. Details remain limited, but the project is expected to tell a fresh story within the wider Kingdom Hearts universe rather than follow Sora, Donald and Goofy.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura is attached to the project. His involvement suggests the show could form part of the franchise’s canon, although Disney and Square Enix have not yet explained how its events will connect with the games or affect the broader storyline.

Kingdom Hearts IV launches in late 2027
The D23 news also included a long-awaited update on Kingdom Hearts IV. Square Enix and Disney confirmed that the next mainline game is scheduled to arrive in late 2027.
A new trailer introduces a Coco-inspired world, drawing from Pixar’s 2017 film and its Day of the Dead setting. The footage also shows Mickey, Donald and Goofy searching for Sora after his disappearance at the conclusion of Kingdom Hearts III.
The trailer may also hint at a change to the party structure. Donald and Goofy do not appear in the footage from the Coco world, suggesting that Sora could be separated from his companions during at least some of the game’s Disney-themed worlds.

A dedicated Kingdom Hearts presentation is next
D23 is set to provide another Kingdom Hearts update through a standalone panel scheduled for 4:30 pm Pacific Time, or 7:30 pm Eastern Time, the following day. Unlike the main presentation, this session will be streamed online through the official Kingdom Hearts YouTube channel.
