Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will remain out of the spotlight for the rest of 2026, with Naughty Dog confirming that its next major reveal is planned for 2027.
The science-fiction action-adventure was announced at The Game Awards in 2022, but details have been scarce since then. Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s studio head, says the team needs more time before showing the project properly.
In an update on Naughty Dog’s website, Druckmann described the game as the studio’s most ambitious project so far. He said development had reached an exciting stage, with the various pieces beginning to come together, but added that the team needed to “cook for just a little bit longer”.
What we know about Intergalactic
The game takes place 2,000 years in the future, in an alternate universe where space travel became commonplace during the 1980s. Players will follow Jordan, a bounty hunter who becomes stranded on an alien planet while pursuing a criminal syndicate.
While trapped, Jordan begins investigating the planet’s history and the secrets surrounding it. Those broad details remain the foundation of what has been publicly revealed, leaving expectations high after Naughty Dog went through almost an entire console generation without releasing a new game.

Naughty Dog sets expectations for 2027
Druckmann’s message was intended to clarify the timetable. Naughty Dog plans to stay quiet for the remainder of this year, then fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in 2027 with a more substantial look at Jordan’s science-fiction adventure.
Troy Baker, who played Joel in The Last of Us and also appears in Intergalactic, has described the upcoming game as something that will “blow” players’ minds. “You are not ready,” he told an audience.
The comments were shared in a clip circulating online, posted on September 28, 2026.
The enthusiastic comments raise the temperature around the project, but they do not change Naughty Dog’s schedule. The studio has already built considerable anticipation for Intergalactic, while Druckmann acknowledged that fans have been waiting a long time for meaningful information.
He said the team does not take that continued support for granted and is working hard to create a game worthy of the patience it has received. Whether the full reveal arrives alongside a 2027 release remains unknown.
