Corruption is a key progression system in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Increasing it unlocks vampire abilities for use at night, including transforming into a wolf for faster travel, gaining lifesteal and improving the corruption earned from drinking blood.
There is only one way to increase corruption: consume blood. You can do this with the Voracious Bite ability or by drinking blood vials.
How to increase corruption
Voracious Bite works on both humans and animals. Use it during combat, or activate focus while travelling through the world. The amount of corruption gained appears to depend on the target’s size. Small creatures such as rats and rabbits provide only a little, while deer and humans offer more.
You can still gain corruption when your health is full, so use Voracious Bite whenever it becomes available. Searching defeated enemies is also worthwhile because they may carry blood vials as loot.
Using blood vials
Blood vials can be consumed whenever you want to build corruption, but they are usually better saved for healing during combat or for crafting. Since animals provide a free source of blood, spend a vial only when you have plenty in reserve.
Only vials that restore vampiric health contribute to corruption. An item such as Beast’s Bane Brew may look blood-based, but it provides a 10% damage bonus against animals rather than healing you, so it does not increase corruption. Like Voracious Bite, a qualifying vial still grants corruption when your health is already full.
Unlock Hastened Corruption
For faster progress, invest in Hastened Corruption in the Vampirism skill tree. You must first purchase Nourishing Blood and reach corruption level 1. The skill has three upgrades:
- Corruption level 1: Corruption fills 30% faster. Costs 1 skill point and 1 time segment.
- Corruption level 4: Drinking blood at full health overfeeds you, granting a temporary health segment and making corruption fill 50% faster while overfed. Costs 1 skill point and 1 time segment.
- Corruption level 6: Corruption fills 50% faster, and each corruption level provides 5% more vampiric health. Costs 2 skill points and 1 time segment.
Making the most of your vampire progression
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a time-sensitive narrative RPG, so your decisions and actions have consequences. After the prologue, you can explore Vale Sangora freely and confront Brencis’ boyars in the order you choose. If that freedom feels daunting, start with a clear plan for your early quests and keep a supply of healing items before spending blood on progression.
