How to learn Dive from Manaphy in Pokémon Pokopia

Dive is available to every Pokémon Pokopia player, including those without the Bubbly Basin DLC. The underwater ability arrived in a free update, but you must first complete several tasks and learn Surf from Lapras.

Requirements for unlocking Dive

Manaphy teaches Ditto the Dive ability, but only after you complete both of these requirements:

• Learn Surf from Lapras.
• Complete the “Raise the Environment Level” request in Bleak Beach.

You will also need the free 2.0 update installed. The steps below explain how to meet each condition.

Where to find Manaphy

Once Bleak Beach reaches Environment Level 5 and the 2.0 update is installed, visit the Pokémon Center in Bleak Beach. Professor Tangrowth will display a speech bubble and tell you about a newly appeared island.

The island is in the north-western part of the regional map, close to the Sparkling Skylands gate. Use Lapras to Surf across the water and reach it.

Manaphy is stranded on the island and is too hungry to move. Talk to Manaphy, then collect and deliver five bundles of seaweed. Several seaweed clumps can be found on the island if you do not already have enough.

After receiving the seaweed, Manaphy teaches you Dive. Ditto automatically performs Dive when submerged in water deeper than its head, and the ability does not consume PP.

How to build Lapras’ Bleak Beach habitat

Lapras requires a suitable habitat before it will appear. As you clean and illuminate Bleak Beach, Piplup gives you a series of requests. Eventually, Piplup displays an orange “Let’s swim together” speech bubble. Speak with Piplup to receive the habitat requirements.

• One large palm tree.
• Four hedges of any type.

Place the decorations beside two ocean squares, ensuring they physically touch the water. Raised placements do not count as a valid habitat.

Large palm trees cannot be planted or moved, so you must use one already present in the area. A convenient location is near the hut where Smeargle can be found. This spot lets you create the habitat without changing the surrounding landscape.

After Lapras arrives, it asks you and Piplup to clean muddy areas across Bleak Beach. Clear 80 mud spots and return to Lapras to learn Surf. Mud cleaned before Lapras appeared still counts towards the total.

How to reach Environment Level 5 in Bleak Beach

After completing “Brighten Things Up”, Professor Tangrowth returns to the area outside the Pokémon Center and asks you to improve Bleak Beach to at least Environment Level 5.

The most reliable approach is to give every Pokémon a home that matches its preferences. Some residents favour bright spaces, while others need shade. Meeting those basic needs, such as building a cave for Zubat, provides a substantial boost.

A useful target is to have most Pokémon at “nice” habitat status, with a few rated higher and no more than two Pokémon lacking habitats. Decorating your Ditto house in Bleak Beach also contributes to the region’s Environment Level.

Complete the steps in order

1. Finish “Brighten Things Up” and improve Bleak Beach to Environment Level 5.
2. Build the required habitat and help Lapras clear 80 muddy spots.
3. Learn Surf from Lapras.
4. Install the 2.0 update, then visit Professor Tangrowth at the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center.
5. Surf to the new island near the Sparkling Skylands gate.
6. Give Manaphy five bundles of seaweed to learn Dive.
