In Pokémon Pokopia, the portal pod works as a shared storage container that can save considerable inventory space. The recipe is available without the Bubbly Basin downloadable content, although unlocking it requires significant progress in Palette Town.
Players who own the DLC can collect two portal pods early in the relevant town and then duplicate them with a 3D printer. Here is how to obtain portal pods, copy them and use their shared storage system.
How to get portal pods in Pokémon Pokopia
The standard way to unlock the portal pod recipe is by increasing Palette Town’s Environment Level. The precise requirement has not been confirmed, but current evidence points to Environment Level 10. At Environment Level 7, the recipe does not appear in the preview for the next level, making Level 10 the likely threshold.
For players with the Bubbly Basin DLC, there is a faster way to obtain the items themselves. Find Popplio and travel to their town. After regaining control of Ditto and being able to explore freely, go to the house in the north-eastern corner shown on the map.
One portal pod is inside the house, blocking a staircase. Go down the stairs, turn left, open the doors and turn left again. A second portal pod is waiting there inside a red-and-white Poké Ball.
After obtaining one portal pod, use the in-game camera to create a reference image for the 3D printer. Press the Minus button to open the camera, then press Y to switch to reference mode.
Take the reference image to any rebuilt Pokémon Center and interact with the printer inside. A duplicate portal pod costs five rare Pokémetal. You can make as many copies as you like, provided you have enough rare Pokémetal available.
How to use portal pods in Pokémon Pokopia
A portal pod connects to every other portal pod you own. Interacting with one gives you access to the same contents, regardless of where the other pod has been placed.
For example, materials stored in a pod left in Withered Wasteland will also be available from another pod placed in Bleak Beach. Items added at Bleak Beach will appear in the Wasteland pod as well.
This makes portal pods particularly useful before starting a large building project. Gather the resources you expect to need, place them in a portal pod and carry that single storage solution with you instead of filling multiple inventory slots.
Portal pods also work with crafting benches. Place one beside a bench and the bench can automatically draw materials from the pod, making construction and crafting more convenient.
