How to Fish, a $5 multiplayer fishing game from Dazed Games, has sold 1 million copies in just two days on Steam. Its unusual mix of relaxed fishing, absurd weaponry and cooperative comedy has also pushed it to the top of Steam’s weekly Top Sellers list.
A fishing game with an explosive twist
Rather than simply landing fish, players in How to Fish catch creatures, sell them and use the money to improve their boat before attempting to make it home. The game supports inventive takedowns, with weapons including brass knuckles, SMGs and dynamite.
Each catch has a value linked to its killscore multiplier. Players can increase that multiplier by pulling off impressive trickshots, adding a competitive edge to the otherwise straightforward fishing loop.
Simple controls, tougher encounters
The basic routine is easy to understand: cast the line, reel in a creature, take it down, sell the result and repeat. As earnings grow, players travel to islands featuring increasingly difficult catches. Some bosses provide a serious challenge, giving the game more depth than its deliberately silly premise suggests.
