Hook returns to Neverland in 4K
Steven Spielberg’s Hook will receive a limited-edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook from Sony on 17 November 2026, marking 35 years since the fantasy adventure first reached cinemas.

The 1991 film stars Robin Williams as Peter Pan grown up, with Dustin Hoffman playing Captain Hook. It is one of Spielberg’s more debated films: a sizeable box-office success with five Academy Award nominations, but a reception that has remained mixed over the decades.
For Australian collectors weighing up a new home cinema release, the package combines a 4K restoration sourced from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision picture and English Dolby Atmos sound.

What is Hook about?
Peter Banning is a successful lawyer whose demanding adult life has pushed his childhood identity far into the background. When Captain Hook kidnaps Peter’s children, he is drawn back to Neverland and forced to face the boy he once was.
Rescuing his family means recovering his imagination and sense of wonder. The film blends Spielberg’s adventure filmmaking with a notably sentimental interpretation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan story.

A divisive film with a lasting audience
Hook has never had a simple reputation. Some viewers value its elaborate production design, memorable performances and strong rewatchability, particularly those who encountered it as children. Others find its crowded story and emotional approach less effective than Spielberg’s most acclaimed work.
That split has become part of the film’s identity. A movie once treated as a lesser entry in Spielberg’s catalogue has built a committed following, making the anniversary edition a timely opportunity to revisit its version of Neverland.
