Halo Studios, the team behind Halo: Campaign Evolved, has reportedly begun reducing its workforce after the remake’s successful launch and broadly positive critical reception.

The layoffs were first reported by Insider Gaming. Several affected employees have since shared updates on LinkedIn, including Nick Treitman, a producer on Campaign Evolved and the product owner for Halo Infinite’s social multiplayer pillar.

Treitman said he had spent six and a half years working on Halo and had avoided several previous rounds of redundancies before his role was finally affected. He also expressed his continued affection for the series and his colleagues, while describing the situation as a difficult reality for the games industry.

Paul Morris, a scrum master who had worked at the studio for more than two years, also confirmed that his employment was ending. His post noted that the change followed the launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved and came during one of the industry’s most challenging job markets.

Software engineer Caleb Lawrence has not published a post announcing a redundancy, but his LinkedIn profile now lists him as available for work. Lawrence worked on Campaign Evolved.

These job losses arrive despite the remake receiving strong reviews. VGC awarded it 10/10, arguing that the remake offers hope for the series’ future. Game Informer’s 8.5/10 review described it as a highly effective rebuild of the original game’s strengths.

Xbox announced last month that more than 3,200 positions would be cut across its studios. The reductions are expected to take place progressively over the following year, continuing until July 2027.

It remains unclear whether further Halo Studios layoffs will follow. However, the cuts do not currently appear to signal a change in Xbox’s remake strategy. A remake of Halo 2 has been all but confirmed, while a Halo 3 remake is also considered likely.

What happens next for Halo Studios?

The reported redundancies create uncertainty around the studio’s staffing, but the planned continuation of the remake programme appears to remain intact. Any further information about projects or additional job losses will determine how significantly the changes affect the next stage of the Halo series.
