Grand Theft Auto 6 could dominate gaming attention when it launches, with Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy predicting a substantial increase in viewers around Rockstar’s next open-world blockbuster.
Clancy expects the game to draw players, streamers and returning viewers to Twitch when it arrives on PS5 and Xbox on 19 November. He believes its influence could extend well beyond launch, potentially keeping audiences engaged through January and producing an even larger surge if online multiplayer follows next year.
In a new interview with Bloomberg, Clancy said Twitch had been discussing Rockstar’s plans and ways to help creators build content around the release. He also suggested that GTA 6 could bring back people who have not used the streaming platform for some time.

“You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer,” Clancy said.
GTA 6 multiplayer remains unconfirmed
The multiplayer suggestion is notable, but it is not an official release announcement from Rockstar. Clancy’s comments describe what he anticipates after conversations with the developer, while Rockstar has not confirmed when the game’s online mode will launch.
GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release as a single-player-only game on 19 November. That means the projected Twitch impact has two possible stages: the initial launch, followed by another potential audience spike when multiplayer becomes available.
Past court documents connected to Rockstar’s dismissal of employees have pointed to a possible 32-player online mode. Some commentators argued those dismissals amounted to union busting, while Rockstar said the employees were fired for disclosing confidential game information, including details about the multiplayer player count.
Whether the online component arrives next year or later, Clancy expects GTA 6 to lift Twitch’s overall audience significantly. He stopped short of estimating the size of that increase, saying only that it would “spike the overall viewership meaningfully”.
Why the launch matters beyond streaming
The expected attention around GTA 6 illustrates how a major release can affect the wider gaming conversation. Other publishers may need to consider the game’s ability to absorb player attention, especially if its single-player launch attracts a large streaming audience and a later online mode extends its lifespan.
