GTA 6 multiplayer may arrive considerably sooner than many players expect. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has indicated that Rockstar plans to launch the game’s online component in 2027, although Rockstar has not confirmed the timing.
A possible 2027 launch for GTA 6 multiplayer
Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently presented as a single-player experience, despite the continuing success of GTA Online. That description has left fans wondering when Rockstar will introduce a multiplayer mode for its next open-world crime game.
During an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy discussed conversations with Rockstar about supporting creators on Twitch. He said the platform should see a major audience increase when GTA 6 launches, followed by an even larger rise the following year when multiplayer arrives.
That comment appears to be the clearest indication yet that multiplayer is planned, but it is not an official announcement from Rockstar. Clancy may have disclosed information earlier than intended, or he may simply have been speaking broadly about the game’s expected online future.
What the timing could mean
GTA 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. If “next year” means early 2027, an online mode could follow only a few months after launch, potentially as soon as January.
Rockstar has used different release windows for online features in the past. GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA 5, while Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer component arrived seven months after the main game. Those examples make the exact GTA 6 schedule difficult to predict.
There is also no indication that Rockstar plans to discontinue the existing GTA Online service. Given its ongoing importance, continued support for that game appears more likely than an immediate replacement.
Rockstar has not confirmed the reveal
Rockstar has not yet issued a statement responding to Clancy’s remarks. Until the developer provides details, the 2027 multiplayer window should be treated as an unconfirmed indication rather than a firm release date.
GTA 6 will also receive a physical soundtrack release containing vinyl and CD editions, scheduled for the same day as the game. For more gaming and hardware coverage, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog and browse the latest arcade videos.
