Grand Theft Auto 5 is receiving a substantial roleplay update, even as attention turns towards the series’ next instalment. Rockstar has announced nopixel V, a new multiplayer-focused addition designed to give players more tools for creating their own stories.

What nopixel V adds to GTA 5

Roleplaying has already been possible in the game, but nopixel V is intended to build those experiences into the game with dedicated systems and content. Rockstar says the update will include a redesigned character-customisation system, allowing players to create more distinctive identities for their stories.

The game world is also set for visual improvements, alongside NPCs that are described as smarter and more responsive. Players will have additional ways to earn money, whether they choose a criminal career or prefer to operate within the law.

New locations are part of the update too. These include a large hotel-casino and an updated version of Cypress Flats. Rockstar’s announcement provides further details about the project.

More changes are planned

Rockstar’s initial announcement covers more than the launch features. Future plans include a new PC game overlay, additional events and “expanded access” to nopixel. The developer also describes the city as a place where every player can influence what happens and where relationships carry significance.

“Every player helps shape the city, and every relationship matters.”

For readers exploring the broader arcade and gaming news landscape, nopixel V is an interesting example of a long-running game being adapted around player-created experiences.

Closed beta begins on 8 September

The closed beta for nopixel V starts on 8 September and will be available directly through the Rockstar Games Launcher. Rockstar says roleplay in GTA has reached a particularly active stage and that this is a good time for players to get involved.

There is still no official information about how the next Grand Theft Auto game will use roleplaying features from GTA Online. Rockstar has also not confirmed when that sequel will launch on PC. Until then, nopixel V could offer the closest available preview of the sequel’s promised focus on detailed, reactive NPCs.
