GTA 5 Actor Says He Auditioned for More Than 60 GTA 6 Roles

Robert Bogue, the actor behind Grand Theft Auto V antagonist Steve Haines, says he was left disappointed after auditioning for more than 60 roles in Grand Theft Auto 6 without receiving a response from Rockstar Games.

Bogue spoke to Anderson Burak via Instagram recently, reflecting on his earlier work with Rockstar and his unsuccessful attempts to return for the next game. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on consoles in November.

Dozens of auditions, no callback

Bogue described his work on GTA V as a positive experience, noting that some of the producers and directors he worked with remain at Rockstar. He said he was eager to be involved in GTA 6, regardless of the size of the part.

Instead, he estimates that he auditioned for over 60 positions, ranging from prominent characters to minor appearances. According to Bogue, none of the auditions led to a role, and he did not receive follow-up communication from the studio about any of them.

Bogue said the experience was discouraging because he had been willing to play any part, but never heard whether he had been successful.

Does Rockstar avoid reusing performers?

The repeated rejections led Bogue to question whether Rockstar has an unofficial preference for casting different actors in different games. Fans have previously speculated about a similar pattern, since the studio has seldom used the same performer for multiple major roles across separate titles.

However, Bogue’s own career with Rockstar provides an important exception. He voiced FIB agent Steve Haines in GTA V, after previously playing Red Harlow in Red Dead Revolver. He also performed the supporting character Troy in The Ballad of Gay Tony, the GTA IV downloadable episode.

What Bogue knows about GTA 6

Bogue said the auditions gave him only limited insight into the upcoming game, based on the small sections of script he was asked to read. He described feeling both disappointed and resentful after being excluded despite his previous relationship with the studio.

The comments offer a rare glimpse into the casting process surrounding one of gaming’s most anticipated releases, although they do not reveal which characters Bogue auditioned for or why he was not selected.
