Xbox has unveiled special-edition hardware for Gears of War: E-Day, including a collector-focused controller and a customisation option through Xbox Design Lab.
In the series’ history, Emergence Day marks the Locust attack that began humanity’s war on Sera. More than a quarter of the planet’s population was killed in just over a day, making the event one of the franchise’s darkest milestones.
The official limited-edition controller is available for pre-order at $89.99. Xbox Design Lab will also let players create their own Gears of War: E-Day-themed controller from 30 September.

A controller built around Emergence Day
The limited-edition design takes inspiration from the E-holes that scar the world of Gears of War: E-Day. Its surface uses 3D-moulded and laser-etched cracked-asphalt details, with red illuminated fractures surrounding the Crimson Omen emblem.
Xbox describes the look as a tribute to the horror and brutality unleashed on Emergence Day. The design is intended to reflect the symbols, damage and battles associated with humanity’s conflict against the Locust Horde.
Design Lab artwork and a charging dock
Custom controllers made through Xbox Design Lab will feature artwork by heavy-metal illustrator Luke Preece. The centrepiece is a custom top shell showing a skull above crossed Lancers, the signature weapons of the series.
Xbox is also partnering with 8BitDo on a matching Gears of War: E-Day charging dock. The announcement does not provide further specifications for the dock.
When does Gears of War: E-Day launch?
Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to launch on 6 October for Xbox Series X and Windows PC. A preview of the game described it as a familiar continuation of the Gears of War formula, with the series’ trademark Locust-sawing combat still intact.
