Game Freak is continuing to explore projects beyond the Pokémon series. After releasing the action RPG Beast of Reincarnation in August, the developer has announced another non-Pokémon project: a mobile game where local weather forecasts can influence daily play.
Ame no Chi Hare Onna brings weather into the game
Ame no Chi Hare Onna is being developed by Game Freak and Chronogate, with Shigeru Ohmori serving as director. Ohmori has directed the mainline Pokémon games since Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and also directed this year’s life simulation game Pokémon Pokopia.
The game follows Hare Onna, a magical girl who can turn weather into a source of power. She is joined by Pon Arai, a small tanuki-like creature known as a Kumorin. These beings are messengers from the gods, and one has granted Hare Onna her abilities.
Other characters with unusual powers are expected to appear, each accompanied by a small angel-like animal companion. The setup carries a familiar theme of people and creatures forming meaningful partnerships, although this project is separate from the Pokémon universe.
For readers who follow arcade news and gaming developments, the most unusual feature is the connection to real-world conditions. Game Freak has not explained the system in detail, but the game is designed to change from day to day depending on whether the player’s local forecast brings rain, sunshine or snow.
Japan launch planned for December
Ame no Chi Hare Onna is scheduled to launch on mobile platforms in Japan in December. An English-language release has not been announced.
The project may appeal to players interested in games that respond to real-world data, as well as fans looking for a different kind of character-driven adventure. Its weather system could also make each session feel less predictable than a fixed, traditional campaign.
Game Freak is working on several projects outside its best-known series. However, attention also remains focused on next year’s Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, which are expected to introduce a new generation for the franchise on Switch 2.
