Amazon has chosen the two central performers for its upcoming Fourth Wing adaptation. Esther McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail, while Emilio Sakraya has been cast as Xaden Riorson. The television project remains in the early stages of production.
Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling romantasy novel follows Violet’s experience at Basgiath War College, where she enters the Riders Quadrant and faces the dangers of dragon-riding training. Xaden is immediately significant to her story: Violet believes he wants her dead because of the conflict between their families.
The tension between Violet and Xaden eventually develops into a romance, making the casting of these roles particularly important for the series. The adaptation’s progress will be worth following alongside other developments in the wider entertainment and gaming news space.
Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya take the lead roles
Deadline reports that McGregor, known for Babygirl and We Were Liars, has been cast as Violet. Sakraya, who appeared in Warrior Nun, will portray Xaden.
The choices broadly match the descriptions of the characters in the book, including Violet’s petite build and Xaden’s distinctive dark presence. However, there are some differences between the novel’s details and the actors’ real-world profiles.
In the book, Violet and Xaden have a height difference of more than a foot. McGregor and Sakraya are separated by approximately 4.7 inches. Sakraya is also 30, while Xaden is described as being in his early twenties. If the production receives further seasons with a lengthy gap between them, that age difference could become more noticeable.
More Fourth Wing characters are still to be announced
Knowing the performers behind the two principal characters answers one of the adaptation’s biggest early questions, but the first novel features many other important roles that remain uncast.
- Dain Aetos
- Rhiannon Matthias
- Liam Mairi
Further announcements should clarify how the rest of Basgiath’s students and staff will be brought to television. Until then, readers can track the project through our video coverage and broader guides to choosing entertainment hardware for a home viewing setup.
