Match overrides can change the rules of a Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 match, but you must reach and activate an override console before selecting one.

There are nine fixed console locations, and each console can be used in every match. The catch is that only one console becomes active at a time, at a random point during the match. Additional consoles may activate later, although the total number varies from game to game.

The first player to interact with an active console receives a choice of three match overrides. These effects can improve sprint speed, increase XP, strengthen pickaxe attacks and provide other gameplay advantages. Some choices apply only to the player’s squad instead of the whole lobby.

How override consoles work

Console positions remain the same in every match, but their activation is unpredictable. You can wait beside one location and hope it powers up, or position yourself between several consoles. The second approach gives you more coverage, but another player may reach the active console first.

When a console becomes available, a game-cartridge icon appears on your screen and map. Move to it quickly. A green check mark in the lower-right corner means another player has already interacted with that console.

A few NPC enemies patrol the immediate area around the consoles. They should be manageable, but deal with them before attempting to use the terminal.

Chapter 7 Season 4 contains nine override console locations. Although every position is permanent, only one console is normally available to activate at any given time, and its activation occurs randomly during the match.

Keeping track of several nearby locations is the safest strategy. Watch for the cartridge symbol, then travel to the marked console immediately. If the green check mark is visible, that console has already been claimed.

All 12 match overrides

There are currently 12 match overrides in Chapter 7 Season 4. Each console interaction presents only three options, so you will not see the complete list every time.

Some overrides affect the entire lobby, while others are limited to your squad. Choosing a squad-only effect broadcasts your squad’s location on the map. After an override is selected, a message announces the chosen power-up to the entire lobby.

  • Sonic Speed: Your sprint speed increases over time.
  • More XP: You earn additional XP from eliminations, looting and surviving the storm.
  • Loot Hack: The next chest you open provides a loot hack item.
  • Extra Life: You respawn once when you are on the brink of elimination.
  • Big Fish: All fishing holes become golden.
  • Constant Heal: Health and shield regenerate continuously over time while you are not in combat.
  • Infinite Stamina: You receive unlimited stamina.
  • Headshot: Your headshot damage increases.
  • Overshield: You gain an extra overshield or a new overshield.
  • Speed Shooter: Your weapons fire and reload more quickly.
  • Big Loot: Chests have a higher chance of containing epic or legendary loot.
  • Power Pickaxe: Pickaxe hits deal massive damage.

Choosing the right override

Because only three effects appear at each console, the best option depends on your squad’s situation. Movement-focused choices can help with repositioning, while XP and loot effects support progression. Defensive effects are useful when your team needs more survivability, and combat bonuses can influence an immediate engagement.

Remember that activating the console first is essential: simply reaching one of the nine locations does not change the match. For more hardware-focused gaming content, browse RETROCADE’s arcade editorial coverage.
