Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has a punishing relationship with time management. For players who rely on a calendar to remember important commitments, missing a warning can turn an otherwise enjoyable session into a demoralising setback.

The problem centres on paralogues: optional character-focused side quests that provide substantial extra story and worldbuilding. They are among the most rewarding content in Fortune’s Weave, but each is available only during a limited in-game window. Spending too long fishing, feasting, exploring dungeons or completing other activities away from the hub can mean missing the opportunity altogether.

That kind of easily missed event is a familiar frustration for anyone managing a busy gaming schedule. Our arcade blog covers plenty of games and hardware, but few systems are quite as unforgiving as a quest deadline that quietly disappears.

A calendar entry that is not really a reminder

My first paralogue involved Leda, a character I enjoy, and promised a sizeable reward. After accepting it, the game said she would be ready five in-game days later and that the event had been added to the calendar.

I interpreted that as a proper reminder. While I stayed near the city and spent time on world-map activities, I expected the game to alert me when it was time to leave with Leda. Instead, a notification eventually informed me that the paralogue’s time had already expired.

The confusion comes from two separate systems. The game calendar records birthdays, shop sale days and other notable events. A different feature lets players mark a specific day and receive a pop-up when it arrives. In practice, “added to my calendar” does not necessarily mean “you will be reminded”.

That distinction is easy to misunderstand if you are accustomed to tools such as Google Calendar, where an appointment generally comes with an alert. Fortune’s Weave treats its calendar more like a written note: useful if you remember to check it, but ineffective when you are relying on a notification to interrupt your plans.

Missing one deadline can erase hours of progress

There is no simple way to recover a paralogue once its deadline has passed. The only option is to restart the chapter, losing all the progress made since the chapter began.

That is what happened after Leda’s event disappeared. I restarted the chapter, then switched off my Switch, too discouraged to continue playing immediately.

Good arcade design usually makes the next action clear, whether you are using a full arcade machine or a compact setup at home. Fortune’s Weave takes the opposite approach here: it separates the event listing from the reminder system, then makes the cost of misunderstanding that separation a complete chapter replay.

Players who want to see every character story should check the calendar carefully, use the game’s separate date-marking feature and return to the hub regularly. It is a reasonable precaution, but one the game explains poorly—and learning it through a missed paralogue can make an already demanding playthrough feel far more punishing than it needs to be.
