Opinion: With Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave now available, it is worth considering which of its characters could make the jump into the next Super Smash Bros. game. The current Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster already includes eight Fire Emblem fighters, but a future release for Nintendo Switch 2 would still have a strong reason to introduce at least one more representative. These six would bring something genuinely different to the fighting-game roster.

6. Eshmel

Eshmel should not become another Byleth-style showcase for every important face in the game. Their own fighting style deserves the spotlight, particularly because it may hint at an identity from a former life. The Trident class would also give Smash a spear-focused fighter, something the sword-heavy Fire Emblem contingent currently lacks.
White magic could round out the moveset, although repeating Robin’s self-healing Nosferatu would be unnecessary. Seraphim would suit the prominence of undead enemies in Fortune’s Weave, while starlight spells associated with Orchel and Aurora could provide distinctive special attacks.
5. Peppe

Peppe’s appeal is built around the contrast between incredible speed and almost laughable strength. He struggles to make an impact before and after the timeskip, and recruiting him on Dietrich’s path is already difficult enough without his poor combat performance.
A Smash moveset could turn that contrast into the joke. Peppe should be exceptionally quick, with rapid movement and attacks, but deal very little damage. It would be a faithful way to make his weaknesses part of his identity rather than hiding them.
4. Cai

Cai has many of the qualities expected from a new Fire Emblem headliner. His godly spear would immediately distinguish him from the series’ sword users, while his ability to summon ornius dinosaur-birds could form the basis of a memorable mobility option.
Balefire Blaze Art also looks made for a ground-covering special that leaves flames behind. Another possibility would be a mount-swapping system inspired by Pokémon Trainer: the ornius could provide speed, the horse extra power, and the bau aerial options. Cai is also the game’s poster character, and Smash has traditionally favoured prominent heroes such as Robin and Lucina over less central figures like Virion or Lon’qu.
3. Goliath

Fire Emblem has no shortage of heavily armoured characters, yet Smash still lacks a true heavyweight from the series. Goliath could fill that gap with a large, durable fighter built around force rather than elegant swordplay, occupying a role closer to Bowser or Donkey Kong.
Buccar does not have a sufficiently distinctive combat identity, while Jasmine’s counter-oriented style risks overlapping with Marth and Roy. Goliath’s reckless, larger-than-life approach makes him the clearest choice for a bruising new addition.
2. Dante

Dante’s case is simpler: she is an appealing character who would be welcome in the roster. Her personality and presence alone make her a strong candidate, even without a detailed moveset concept.
1. Fabio

If there can only be one additional Fire Emblem fighter, Fabio deserves the spot. Personal enthusiasm aside, he would also add a type of combatant Smash has not properly represented: an aggressive magic user.
Zelda’s magic is largely defensive, and in some Smash games one of her special options is tied to transforming into Sheik. Ness and Lucas offer powerful psychic attacks, but their movesets have a very different rhythm. Fabio could draw on standard Fire Emblem magic as well as his unusual Agarthan spells, using Mire for long-range pressure, Death as a devastating ultimate attack and Warp as a recovery option.
That combination would give the next Smash Bros. game a fighter who feels recognisably connected to Fortune’s Weave without simply repeating the series’ existing sword-focused designs. Which fighter would you choose?
Eshmel, Peppe, Cai, Goliath, Dante and Fabio would each broaden the series in a different way. Whether Nintendo favours a headline hero, a heavyweight or an unconventional spellcaster, Fortune’s Weave offers several candidates with more to contribute than another interchangeable swordfighter.
