How to Open the Nameless Ruins Chest in Final Fantasy Resonance

A sealed chest beside a large statue awaits in the Nameless Ruins. Examining it reveals a riddle, but the nearby statue does not immediately provide the answer. You must explore further into the dungeon, defeat two enemies and interact with three statues in the correct sequence.
This guide explains the solution and details the reward inside. For more gaming and arcade news, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog.
The Nameless Ruins chest riddle
The chest presents this riddle:
“First, a broken sword pierced the sky, bringing light. Then, a withered horse was laid to rest, becoming the land. Finally, darkness once sealed was unleashed, cleaving day from night.”

Statue order: sword, horse, darkness
The important clues are the first nouns in each sentence: sword, horse and darkness. Find the three statues in the Nameless Ruins and examine them in that order.
The statues do not visibly resemble their descriptions. Instead, each one gives a different description when examined. The statue beside the chest represents darkness, so it must be used last.
- Broken sword: Find this statue at the end of the dungeon, beside the save point. Access is blocked until you defeat the disembodied voice’s two test monsters: Iron Giant and Liquid Flame.
- Horse: This statue is on the ground floor, across a gap. Reach it using the staircase on the western side, just beyond the room where you fought Liquid Flame.
- Darkness: Return to the dungeon entrance and examine the statue beside the chest.
After interacting with the statues in that sequence, the chest opens and you can collect its contents. If you are planning a dedicated gaming setup, our arcade machine buying guide covers the key decisions involved in choosing a cabinet.
Nameless Ruins chest reward
The chest contains Tyr’s Armor, a sturdy set with the following statistics:
- 159 physical defence
- 93 magic defence
- -38 speed
The speed penalty is not automatically a deal-breaker. It may be a poor choice for a character who needs to act first, but several options can reduce its impact. You can cast Hastega on the party, apply slow to an enemy or use Rain’s Unity skill.
Tidus’ Haste Opener passive is another option. It starts combat with haste active, allowing you to equip Tyr’s Armor on a slower fighter without necessarily changing your usual rotation.
