Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is coming to disc, with an important catch
Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter in the remake trilogy, will receive a physical release. The game launches on 8 April 2027, but its disc-based edition will not be completely playable without an internet connection.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi previously expressed interest in putting the trilogy’s finale on physical media during a surprise appearance at Final Fantasy 14 Berlin Fan Fest. The confirmation is welcome news for collectors, although the format comes with a notable limitation.
What the physical release includes
According to the official Square Enix press release, the standard physical edition will contain the game on a single disc. Players will still need an internet connection to download additional data before they can play.
That is preferable to a box containing only a digital download code, but it represents a change from the earlier remake releases. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth shipped in multi-disc physical editions that could be played without going online.
The physical Nintendo Switch 2 version has a different caveat: it will use a Game-Key card.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation editions and prices
Square Enix is offering several versions of the game. The announced options and inclusions are:
- Standard Edition — $69.99: the physical version includes either a special Magic: The Gathering card from selected retailers or a folded poster when purchased through Amazon.
- Deluxe Edition — $99.99: the physical package includes a mini soundtrack, artbook and steelbook case.
- Premium Edition — $99.99: the digital edition adds the Story Expansion Pass and 24-hour early access.
- Premium Plus Edition — $109.99: includes the Premium Edition content, along with a digital soundtrack, digital artbook and several in-game items.
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake Series Trilogy Edition — $84.99: a digital pre-order option that provides immediate access to Remake and Rebirth.
The $349.99 Collector’s Edition
The most elaborate option is the $349.99 physical Collector’s Edition, exclusive to the Square Enix store. It contains the Deluxe Edition contents, the Story Expansion Pass and several exclusive in-game items.
Its centrepiece is a premium statue depicting Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth standing back-to-back. The package is priced below many current game consoles, but the disc’s download requirement remains a significant consideration for anyone buying it primarily as a long-term physical collectible.
