Final Fantasy XIV’s Keybound Brawler event brings outfits inspired by Tifa and Barret from the Final Fantasy VII remake project to the Gold Saucer. Unlike the long-standing Cloud outfit based on Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, these rewards are earned through a typing-focused battle event and a special currency.
This guide explains the event requirements, where to begin, how the brawls work and how many Manderville Gold Saucer Credits you need for the collaboration rewards. For more gaming coverage, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog.
How to unlock Tifa and Barret’s outfits
The only way to obtain the Tifa and Barret outfit pieces is to participate in the Keybound Brawler event. It begins on October 28 and runs until the release of Final Fantasy XIV patch 8.0 alongside the Evercold expansion, which is expected in January.
You must meet these requirements before joining:
- Reach level 15.
- Complete one of the following main scenario quests: “The Gridanian Envoy”, “The Ul’dahn Envoy” or “The Lominsan Envoy”.
- Unlock the Gold Saucer.
- Use a keyboard, as the event requires you to type words during combat.

Keybound Brawler rewards are bought with Manderville Gold Saucer Credits, or MGC. Do not confuse MGC with Manderville Gold Saucer Points, or MGP, which come from the regular Gold Saucer activities.
All four pieces of Tifa’s outfit cost 1,380 MGC. Barret’s five-piece outfit costs 1,570 MGC. These totals exclude the Avalanche Brawler’s Earring and the Avalanche Leader’s Earring. The outfits are gender locked, so decide which set to prioritise before spending your credits.
A completed three-wave brawl awards between 200 and 340 MGC, depending on your final score. That means collecting both complete outfits takes approximately six to 12 matches.
How to start the Keybound Brawler event

Travel to the Gold Saucer in Thanalan and speak to Catlike Mammet at coordinates 5.4, 7.0. Accept the side quest “Keyward Bound”.
Next, find W’zazanh at Wonder Square at 6.1, 7.3 and enter the Keybound Square. Speak to the Magitype Master behind the counter to finish the quest.
There is no crystal teleport point in the Keybound Square. To return there later, you must speak with W’zazanh again.

When you are ready to play, talk to the Keybound Registrar at 5.8, 6.0. You can queue with a group or enter solo and wait for the duty finder to assemble a party.
How Keybound Brawler matches work

Each match contains three waves. Enemies move towards a barrier protecting your party, and every enemy that reaches it attacks the barrier and reduces the party’s HP bar.
To defeat them, type the words displayed above each enemy. Capitalisation does not matter, but punctuation and accents must be entered correctly. If the party’s HP reaches zero, the brawl fails.
You receive some MGC simply for taking part, while your score and the number of waves completed affect the final amount. Defeating the boss in the third wave also awards MGP and a Keybound Coffer. Coffers can contain rewards including food and weapons such as the Adamant Rod.
Every Keybound Brawler reward and MGC cost
The event’s reward list includes Tifa and Barret’s outfits, the Magitek Scorpion mount and several Final Fantasy VII-themed items. Most rewards are purchased with MGC, while Keybound Coffers are also earned by defeating the third-wave boss.
