Fast & Furious is expanding beyond cinemas. Peacock has officially ordered a television series connected to the Vin Diesel-led action franchise, with a planned 2028 premiere timed to the arrival of the next film, Fast Forever.

The announcement confirms a project Diesel said was in development in May. He is attached as an executive producer, although it remains unknown whether he will again play Dominic Toretto, the street racer and mechanic at the centre of the films.

Variety reports that Mike Daniels, known for Sons of Anarchy and Shades of Blue, and Wolfe Coleman, whose credits include Shades of Blue and 9-1-1: Lone Star, will write the pilot. Both writers will also serve as showrunners and executive producers.

What is happening with Fast Forever?

Fast Forever is intended to be the final chapter of the film series, but the franchise is now set to continue on television. The movie is currently scheduled for Australian cinemas and other theatrical markets on 17 March 2028, while the Peacock series is expected to launch during the same year.

More than three years have passed since Fast X ended on a cliffhanger. Although production on Fast Forever has faced repeated delays, Diesel has said filming is finally due to begin in December. Louis Leterrier, who directed Fast X, is returning behind the camera.

The screenplay comes from Michael Lesslie, whose credits include The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Diesel has described it as the best script he has read in decades and said it made him cry.

Which characters could return?

Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris are all expected to reprise their roles, although their returns have not been formally confirmed in the supplied announcement. The post-credits scenes in Fast X also hinted at the return of Gisele Yashar, played by Gal Gadot, and Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson.

Diesel has previously said that bringing Dom and Brian O’Conner back together was one condition for the finale. Brian was played by the late Paul Walker. Walker’s brother Caleb, who helped double for him during the completion of Furious 7, has said that Brian could return, but only with considerable thought and a tasteful approach.

Why arcade fans may be watching

The franchise’s move into television is another example of car culture continuing to cross between film, games and interactive entertainment. For Australian households considering a dedicated driving setup, RETROCADE’s racing simulators offer a natural starting point, while the arcade machine buying guide can help with space, controls and cabinet selection.

Readers building a custom racing station can also explore arcade parts for replacement controls and hardware, or browse the wider arcade blog for more industry news.

Fast Forever

For now, the television project has a target year rather than a confirmed release date, and Diesel’s on-screen involvement remains unresolved. The next major answer may come from Fast Forever when it reaches cinemas in 2028.
