Enshrouded has spent Early Access becoming more than a survival RPG. Its players have transformed Embervale with underwater taverns, forest treehouses, vast cathedrals, recreated castles, underground cities and even enormous toilets. With version 1.0 approaching, the game’s carefully designed world is ready for its next chapter.
The full release is scheduled for October 15 and will expand the game’s blend of survival, role-playing and creative construction. It will explore the origins of the Shroud—the poisonous fog consuming Embervale—and the events behind the kingdom’s collapse. New enemies, biomes and gameplay improvements are also part of the launch, alongside the game’s move to PlayStation 5.

Reclaiming Embervale Through the Shroud
Enshrouded places players in a fallen kingdom threatened by a deadly mist. The Shroud drains life and eventually kills anyone who remains inside it for too long, turning every expedition into a balance between curiosity and survival.
Beyond the fog are ancient ruins, hidden cultures, valuable treasures and secrets scattered across a handcrafted landscape. Grappling hooks and gliders help players cross the terrain, but equipment alone is not enough. Every trip into the miasma demands careful timing and a willingness to push towards danger before the clock runs out.
The world is deliberately arranged rather than generated as a collection of arbitrary surprises. That sense of intention makes exploration rewarding, while also making the journey more demanding when tackled alone.
Co-operative Play with Room for Every Style
Up to 16 PC players or eight PlayStation 5 players can share a world at the same time. Co-operative groups do not need to pursue identical objectives: one player can construct a settlement, another can investigate ruins, and a third can gather materials or work the land.
Each activity contributes to the wider effort to restore Embervale. Hunting, fishing, farming and animal husbandry are not distractions from the survival loop; they are legitimate ways to collect resources and unlock improvements. A player who prefers cultivating crops or caring for animals can make meaningful progress without joining every combat encounter.
The PlayStation 5 release introduces the game to a new audience, while a post-launch roadmap gives the 1.0 launch the character of a new starting point rather than a final destination. For more gaming and arcade news and features, explore the RETROCADE blog.

Building Anywhere, from Fortresses to Cities
Although the Shroud makes Embervale hostile, Enshrouded balances its harsh survival systems with a relaxed creative side. Players can spend their time establishing a fortress on a cliff, constructing a ship in a lagoon or developing a settlement beneath a waterfall.
The terrain is fully terraformable, so construction is not limited to placing fixed objects on level ground. Bases can be carved into mountains, built underground or expanded into miniature cities. The combination of precision tools and pre-made blocks lets builders choose between detailed shaping and faster assembly.
Dynamic water, added during Early Access, expanded the possibilities for a voxel-based construction system. The community has used those tools to create structures that resemble lost architectural landmarks rather than temporary survival shelters. Through the game’s adventure-sharing features, one player’s project can become another player’s reason to explore.

Flexible Combat and Character Builds
Combat uses a skill-based system supported by a substantial upgrade tree. Players can specialise in greatswords, magic or hybrid approaches, with enough flexibility to make unconventional builds viable rather than punishing experimentation.
Enemies become more challenging as characters grow stronger, giving each chosen build a meaningful test. Difficulty settings allow players to adjust the experience to suit their priorities. Builders can enjoy lower-pressure sessions, while combat-focused players can increase the challenge and put their abilities under greater strain.

Early Access Feedback Shaped the 1.0 Release
Enshrouded holds an 87% positive rating on Steam, and more than five million people played during Early Access. That audience contributed tens of thousands of hours of building, exploration and combat, helping shape revised combat systems, performance improvements and broader mechanical overhauls.
The developers released eight major updates across the two-year Early Access period, addressing issues in collaboration with the community. One example was the Fell Dragon Youngling, the game’s final boss. After players found the encounter challenging, it was refined to make the climactic battle more memorable.
The 1.0 update also includes requested improvements to gliding, fishing and pets. Improved graphics and performance sit alongside the combat and gameplay revisions developed through player feedback, making the finished release more than a simple content milestone.

Enshrouded 1.0 Release Platforms
Enshrouded 1.0 launches on October 15 for PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. An Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027.
Its appeal lies in the way exploration, survival, combat and construction support one another. Whether a session involves braving the Shroud, improving a character build, farming resources or shaping an elaborate settlement, each approach forms part of the same effort to reclaim Embervale.
