The Elder Scrolls 6 Name Theory Emerges From a Starfield Easter Egg

A recent comment from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has given fans a new clue to the identity of The Elder Scrolls 6. Sharma said she had watched a live playthrough of Bethesda’s next fantasy RPG, describing its scale and grandeur as incredible and its story as even greater.
However, the executive referred to the project as The Elder Scrolls VI: ********, leaving an eight-character gap where the subtitle should be. That detail has revived an old theory connected to Starfield’s character-creation screen.
Why fans think the subtitle is Sentinel
One Starfield player noticed three years ago that the customisation menu displayed the employee number 190514-2009140512. It may have looked like a random sequence, but splitting the digits into pairs and converting each pair into a letter using A1Z26 notation appeared to produce the word Sentinel.
The theory gained traction because “Sentinel” contains eight letters, matching the number of asterisks in Sharma’s description. The clue is not confirmed, but the alignment has made it one of the more convincing fan guesses about the game’s eventual name.
A number that reportedly changed
Further investigation by players found that the number shown on the screen changed between the 2022 gameplay reveal and the playable version released in 2023. Because the value is identical for every player, fans argue that the alteration may have been deliberate rather than a procedural change.

Former Bethesda artist adds fuel to the theory
The strongest apparent support came from Michael Kirkbride, a former Bethesda writer and artist whose credits include The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Kirkbride replied with “yep” to a social-media post suggesting that “Sentinel” was the missing word.
That response is not an official announcement, and Kirkbride’s past involvement does not establish the final title. For now, the name remains a fan theory built from an in-game number, a recent tease and a brief reply.
The wider Bethesda context

The speculation arrived alongside difficult news for Bethesda staff. Union workers protested mass Xbox layoffs on the same day Sharma visited the studio to watch the playthrough. A large inflatable rat stood outside the Bethesda offices, surrounded by small red flags representing ZeniMax employees who had lost their jobs.

The Elder Scrolls 6 has no official release date. It is expected to launch in 2028 or later, while Bethesda workers have raised concerns about veteran developers being laid off. The reported loss of experienced staff, particularly within the role-playing game’s quality-assurance team, has also affected confidence in the project’s future.
Until Bethesda confirms the subtitle, Australian fans can treat “Sentinel” as an intriguing possibility rather than settled fact. For more gaming and hardware coverage, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog, explore the Arcade Machine Buying Guide, or browse the latest arcade machines.
