Adrenaline has published a website listing for Drakons: Realm Keepers, with Betson also adding the motion-based arcade attraction to its new-release pages. The update follows listings for UNIS’ Lane Master Xtreme and Sega’s Hyper Cross.

For operators and collectors tracking new arcade machines in Australia, the cabinet render raises some interesting questions about the game’s screen technology, footprint and eventual commercial specification. Adrenaline was also due to showcase the title at its IAAPA 2023 booth.

Drakons: Realm Keepers cabinet render

The render presents a large-format attraction built around an exceptionally prominent display. Adrenaline describes the screen as a “Massive Ultra-bright 106” LED Panel”, while Betson’s information specifies an 85-inch LCD.

The differing descriptions could point to two display configurations: the large LED-panel design shown in the render and an alternative version using an 85-inch LCD. A separate pair of production models had not been confirmed, although the game appears to support both display modes. The IAAPA presentation was expected to provide a clearer answer.

Anyone comparing a substantial commercial attraction with a home setup can also consult RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide and browse the available upright arcade cabinets for a sense of how different formats compare.

Location testing and pricing

A local Betson representative said Drakons had been undergoing testing for several months. Its performance was described as comparable with environmental attractions such as Jurassic and Halo, but with a higher price per play attributed to the motion base.

Feedback from the test location was reported as “awesome”. The representative also said the game would be tested with an 85-inch LCD for comparison. That test did not confirm whether operators would eventually be offered a choice of cabinet versions. Final pricing was unavailable at the time and was expected to be quoted at IAAPA.

For venues planning around maintenance and long-term operation, RETROCADE’s information on arcade repairs and service is useful background, while arcade parts provide another reference point for conventional machines.

Early gameplay footage

The short video attached to Adrenaline’s listing offers only a brief look at gameplay. It avoids showing the rendered seats visible in the attract video shared by Betson.

Additional footage and hands-on information were expected from the IAAPA 2023 showcase. Until the final specification and price are released, the main open questions concern the display format, whether alternatives will be available and how the motion system will influence the cost per play.
