Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will continue in novel form this November, with a new story focused on Jake Sisko, the consequences of the Dominion War and the unresolved legacy of Benjamin Sisko.

The Peacemakers revisits Deep Space Nine

Unlike earlier Star Trek series built around a travelling starship, Deep Space Nine centred its story on a space station. The series also developed a long-running arc around Benjamin Sisko, played by Avery Brooks, whose position as the Emissary of the Prophets became increasingly important.

Later seasons placed Starfleet under enormous pressure during the Dominion War. Sisko and his fellow officers were sometimes forced to compromise their principles to achieve victory, giving the series a darker political edge and introducing greater moral ambiguity to the wider franchise.

The next chapter is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine — The Peacemakers, written by Uma McCormack. The novel takes place five years after the television finale, “What You Leave Behind”, and is scheduled to be available for purchase on 17 November 2026.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine Sisko Family

Jake Sisko investigates a deadly mystery on Cardassia

Jake is writing a book about the aftermath of the Dominion War when his work leads him to Cardassia Prime. After joining a Cardassian expedition, he and the other members of the group are drawn into a series of murders.

The investigation connects Jake’s personal history with Cardassia’s difficult recovery. Cardassia spent much of the series opposing Starfleet before turning against the Dominion, and the war left its homeworld severely damaged. The novel will explore the rebuilding process while Jake confronts the people and political forces that once stood against his father.

“What You Leave Behind” resolved the Dominion War and showed Sisko entering the wormhole occupied by the Prophets. Before departing, he told Jake and his wife, Kasidy Yates, that he would return. The years following Sisko’s disappearance have left Jake’s own path largely unexplored, and The Peacemakers is set to address that gap.

More stories are carrying the DS9 legacy forward

The new novel is not the only project returning to the Deep Space Nine era. Timothy Zahn, known for his Star Wars novels, is writing a graphic novel called Roc’s Egg, which will centre on a mystery aboard the station.

Characters from the series have also appeared in IDW Publishing’s ongoing Star Trek comic series. That story brings Sisko into a conflict with a mysterious force that is killing gods, alongside Beverly Crusher and Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. Crusher is also receiving her own comic miniseries.

Jake has returned on screen too. Cirroc Lofton reprises the role in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode “Series Acclimation Mil”, which establishes that Jake wrote about his father’s disappearance. The episode also reveals that instructor Illa Dax now carries the Dax symbiont, previously joined with Jadzia Dax.

The episode’s creators aimed to make the story work within Starfleet Academy while serving as a genuine tribute to Deep Space Nine.
