Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 has moved from 17 September to 3 December 2026, placing King Art Games’ upcoming real-time strategy game just two weeks after Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on 19 November.

A December release replaces a crowded September
The new date puts the Space Marine-led strategy game closer to one of the year’s largest releases, but it also removes the title from an exceptionally busy September schedule. That month includes Control Resonant, Marvel’s Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Blood of the Dawnwalker and Silent Hill: Townfall, among other games.

For players deciding where to spend their time and money, shifting away from that crowded month may give Dawn of War 4 more room to establish itself, even with the enormous attention expected to surround Rockstar’s open-world release.

Extra development time will focus on polish
Game director Jan Theysen said King Art Games is using the additional weeks to respond to community play-test feedback, address bugs, improve performance and refine the overall experience. Theysen also said the response to those tests has been strongly positive, while making clear that the team still needs more time before launch.
The extra development period is intended to incorporate more player feedback, fix technical issues and improve the finished game.

Launch factions and the revised roadmap
Dawn of War 4 is scheduled to release with four playable factions:
- Space Marines
- Adeptus Mechanicus
- Necrons
- Orks
The post-launch plan is also being revised. The largest additions are now planned for 2027, including Crusade Mode, the Mission Editor and map packs. The Blood Ravens Story Prologue DLC is due in spring, followed by the Aftermath campaign expansion in summer.

A new studio takes over the series
This will be the first mainline Dawn of War game made without Relic Entertainment. Relic launched the original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War in 2004, followed by sequels in 2009 and 2017.
The first two games earned critical acclaim for their real-time strategy systems and their use of the Warhammer 40,000 setting. The third instalment was considerably more divisive. It currently holds 47% positive reviews on Steam, with players criticising its continuing bug problems nine years after release.

King Art Games is leading development after Deep Silver was impressed by the studio’s earlier strategy title, Iron Harvest. More Warhammer projects are also in development, including an animated television series from Amazon and Saber Interactive’s Warhammer: Space Marine 3.

What the delay means for strategy fans
The December date gives King Art Games a short but valuable window to improve stability before launch. It also sets up a challenging release period: Dawn of War 4 will need to compete for attention with one of 2026’s most anticipated games while offering a very different experience built around factions, campaigns and real-time strategy.
