Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will feature prominently in the second set of the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game. Developer WeirdCo has announced Edgerunners: Burn Bright, the game’s first expansion, launching in spring 2027.
The set will bring characters, weapons, cyberware and scenes from CD Projekt Red and TRIGGER’s Netflix anime to tabletop play. The first artwork reveal focuses on two very different faces of Night City: the tragedy that shaped David Martinez and the destructive force of Adam Smasher.

Two new cards, two kinds of brutality
The revealed cards are Caught in the Crossfire and Adam Smasher — Story Ends Here. One revisits a defining loss from the first episode of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners; the other presents the franchise’s most recognisable cyborg as a walking symbol of violence.

Caught in the Crossfire remembers Gloria Martinez
Illustrated by Studio Grafit, Caught in the Crossfire shows Gloria Martinez lying injured on the road, surrounded by broken glass and a burning vehicle. The scene recalls the highway crash in the anime’s opening episode, when a routine journey home becomes the event that changes David’s life.
The card’s viewpoint is close to David’s perspective as he sees his mother hurt on the road. It is not an exact recreation of the animated sequence, though: Gloria’s face is visible, making the image feel even more personal and confronting.
Earlier, Gloria and David argue about his future at Arasaka Academy. She works relentlessly to keep him enrolled, believing education might give him a path towards a comfortable corporate life. David, meanwhile, feels out of place among his wealthier classmates.
Their car is caught in a random shootout unrelated to either of them. Trauma Team arrives but refuses to provide treatment because the family is not covered by its service. David gets Gloria to hospital, but she later dies from her injuries.
That sequence captures one of the series’ central ideas: Night City possesses remarkable technology, yet access to lifesaving care still depends on money. Despite Gloria’s efforts, the Martinez family remains poor.
Adam Smasher stands amid the wreckage
Erik Ly’s artwork for Adam Smasher — Story Ends Here takes a less mournful approach. The Arasaka cyborg stands in smoke and destruction, with bodies crushed beneath his feet.
The scene might initially suggest the aftermath of Smasher’s final confrontation with David in the first season of Edgerunners, but the artwork does not appear to depict that specific event. At least three bodies are visible across the battlefield, even though the surroundings look broadly similar.
The title offers a grim counterpoint to the ambition that drives so many Cyberpunk stories. In a city where people chase fame and try to become legends, Adam Smasher represents the force that ends those dreams—literally and figuratively.
What we know about Burn Bright
These reveals show the cards’ artwork only, so their gameplay abilities have not been confirmed. The available information does not establish whether either card is a Legend, Program or another card type, nor does it confirm a colour identity.
WeirdCo says Burn Bright will add new mechanics and competitive strategies. The set will also include foil and textured treatments, along with a new chase rarity that will be detailed later.
“The community reception to Cyberpunk TCG has been nothing short of incredible so far, so we want to deliver something even more exciting with Set 2,” WeirdCo co-founder Elliot Cook said in the announcement. “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners provides us so many opportunities to evolve this game in meaningful ways, both mechanically and artistically, and we can’t wait to share that with players.”

Release details
Edgerunners: Burn Bright is scheduled to launch in English and French in spring 2027, with Chinese-language support planned for later. Booster packs, booster displays and prerelease kits will be sold through specialist hobby stores.
Prerelease tournaments are scheduled to take place one week before the set’s retail release. Australian players will need to watch local hobby retailers for launch timing and event details as they become available.
