Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3 has not been confirmed, but the second season leaves Night City with enough surviving characters, unresolved possibilities and thematic room for another story.
Edgerunners 2 arrived on Netflix on 20 October 2026. Like the first season, it delivers devastating losses, intense action and a conclusion that largely stands on its own. However, several characters survive, relationships remain important and some lives appear to have a future beyond the finale.
That does not guarantee a third season. CD Projekt Red has presented both Edgerunners projects as standalone stories, while the creative team has discussed an anthology-style approach in which different filmmakers explore the same world and themes.

Will Cyberpunk: Edgerunners get a third season?
There is currently no confirmed release date, cast or production schedule for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3. Netflix can announce renewals after a season launches, but no such announcement has been confirmed here.
There are still practical reasons for optimism. The first two seasons show that separate casts can occupy the same interconnected Night City, and a future production would not need to continue directly from the second season’s ending.
What the creators have said about more Edgerunners stories
Standalone storytelling has been central to the project from the start. CD Projekt Red’s June 2020 announcement described the original anime as a standalone 10-episode story. Its July 2025 announcement introduced the follow-up as a new standalone anime with a brand-new cast.
That structure allowed David Martinez’s story to end while the broader Edgerunners setting continued. The same model could apply after season 2: a third entry might feature entirely new protagonists, bring back selected supporting characters or examine the consequences of earlier events.
Writer and story creator Bartosz Sztybor and producer Saya Elder have described the series as an anthology connected by shared themes and differing creative perspectives. Sztybor pointed to the first four Alien films as an example of how different directors can give one franchise distinct styles. His stated ambition for Edgerunners was to retain its core concerns while allowing experimentation.
That creative change is already visible in the second instalment. Kai Ikarashi took over directing duties from Hiroyuki Imaishi and brought a different visual sensibility to a new ensemble. Ambition, sacrifice, family and survival remain important, but the characters respond to those ideas in different ways.
Night City is the constant. A potential third season could follow another crew, revisit surviving characters or use a familiar figure as a link between stories without becoming a direct sequel.
How the Edgerunners 2 ending could lead to season 3
Spoilers for both seasons follow.
The second season’s climax deliberately echoes the first: the central characters become entangled with dangerous experimental technology before launching into a destructive final confrontation. David had the Prototype Arasaka Cyberskeleton. Talia and D become connected to a neurochip containing Capri, a digital AI entity whose abilities appear to provide control over technology and metal.
D is exposed to the chip earlier in the season and takes Capri’s soul with him. Talia is later reunited with Capri after Kang Tao ambushes D and seizes the chip. When Talia discovers that her father, Kiril Yang, killed her mother, Avida, she uses Capri’s powers to transform into a colossal creature made from scrap metal and terrorise Night City.
Corporate forces converge to stop her. D manages to reclaim the chip, gives his friends an opportunity to escape and confronts the combined enemy forces alone.
D and Capri’s final moments are comparatively hopeful. They look towards a distant star or satellite and wonder whether they could reach it, but the enormous explosion that follows strongly suggests that both have died. The sequence mirrors David’s fate while giving D his own motivation: with vengeance no longer available, he chooses a final chance to reunite with Capri and enjoy the time they have left.
Capri’s fate is less certain. The AI is powerful enough to be dangerous, so its apparent destruction may be the safest outcome for Night City. Even so, the possibility that Capri escaped into the Net remains open.
The season’s villains are killed in the finale, while Roman, Talia, Weak and D’s former clanmate Omi survive.
Talia’s mysterious condition appears stable for now. She leaves Night City with Weak to seek treatment elsewhere, although she and Roman promise to meet again. Roman continues through the city searching for his next recording subject.
That role gives Roman a natural connection to future stories. His work documenting Night City could bring him into contact with another crew and provide a bridge to a new cast without making him the main character. His second-season arc also reaches a satisfying conclusion if the series chooses not to revisit him.
When could Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3 release?
No release window has been announced, and the gap between the first two instalments does not establish a reliable production timetable.
The original series arrived in 2022, while Edgerunners 2 followed in 2026. However, CD Projekt Red’s first announcement noted that work on the original anime had been under way since 2018. The release interval therefore cannot show when development on another story would begin or how long production might take.
For now, the second season ends in a way that supports both possibilities: continuation and closure. Roman still has stories to record, Talia has a chance to recover, and Weak has found a reason to look ahead. A third season could follow them, or introduce another group trying to survive in the same unforgiving city.
