Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a new update celebrating the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the standalone Netflix sequel to the 2022 anime series.
CD Projekt Red has named the release the Edgerunners 2 Update, also known as Update 2.5. The studio says it will add content inspired by the anime, alongside a range of other new items and features.
Full details have not yet been announced. CD Projekt Red will hold a livestream on Wednesday at 11 a.m. EDT, with the presentation available on Twitch, YouTube and Steam.
For Australian players, the update is scheduled to launch on 22 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow shortly, although no more specific timing has been provided.
What the Edgerunners 2 update could mean for Night City
The new content links the role-playing game more closely with the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Like the game, the anime is set in Night City, a futuristic metropolis shaped by gang violence, extreme body modification and powerful technology.
The first season focused on David Martinez and his rise and fall after excessive cybernetic enhancement took a heavy toll. The second season introduces a new group of characters attempting to survive the same dangerous city.
The new story brings together a veteran edgerunner, a young film enthusiast, a delinquent obsessed with chrome and a netrunner from Snake Nation. Its central themes include revenge and redemption, while the characters face the continuing instability of Night City.
Edgerunners 2 continues the Cyberpunk connection
Although the series follows a fresh cast, it remains connected to the world established by Cyberpunk 2077. That makes the update a notable addition for players who discovered the setting through the anime, as well as fans already familiar with the game’s sprawling RPG systems.
