New York Comic Con 2026 delivered major entertainment news, from the premiere of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus to a substantial Crunchyroll showcase spanning anime, films, manga and webtoon adaptations.

The biggest reveal was a new collaboration between Hayate, the Japanese animation company established by Aniplex, and Line Digital Frontier Corporation, a subsidiary of Webtoon Entertainment. The companies plan to develop anime adaptations of approximately 15 popular webtoons available through Line Digital Frontier’s mobile application.

Crunchyroll will exclusively stream the resulting anime in selected territories. The first three projects have already been announced, with trailers available for The Remarried Empress, Teenage Mercenary and The Boxer.

Webtoons have become a significant source of entertainment worldwide, with platforms such as Line, Webtoon and KakaoPage attracting millions of views. The success of Solo Leveling, adapted from a web novel and webcomic published on KakaoPage, has further demonstrated the international potential of these properties.
