Control Resonant is now available on consoles and PC, and Remedy Entertainment has released a launch hotfix aimed at making its early combat more responsive. The open-world sequel to 2019’s Control had attracted positive reviews, but enemy health and boss durability became recurring concerns during its opening hours.

The game technically launched on 22 September for customers who pre-ordered its more expensive edition. Its general release arrived on 24 September 2026 across all platforms. Remedy says the changes were shaped by reviews, early-access player feedback and the studio’s own experience with the finished game.

What the launch hotfix changes

Hotfix 1.3.3 focuses on enemies taking too many hits before they can be defeated or stunned for an execution. Remedy also felt that Dylan’s combat abilities were not powerful enough early in the story, despite the character having just awakened from a coma.

Remedy says the update is intended to improve the feel and flow of combat while preserving a meaningful challenge. The full launch-hotfix explanation is available in Remedy’s blog post.

  • Most enemies have lower base health and require less Falter, or stun, strength before an execution. The Dancer and Deserter bosses are included.
  • Maximum Aberrant Strength and maximum Ability Strength have both been increased.
  • The strength increases follow a curve, becoming progressively larger later in the upgrade path. Players with more upgrades will therefore deal more damage.

Assist options remain available

Players who still find the combat too punishing can use Control Resonant’s assist mode to adjust enemy health and damage. Those settings can also be used in the opposite direction, allowing players to create a considerably harder experience.

The update also permanently reduces the cost of respecing abilities and revises some user-interface text to explain combat systems and other mechanics more clearly.

Positive response, with one installation complaint

Early reactions to the hotfix have been largely positive. Many players identified excessive enemy health as one of the sequel’s biggest problems and believe the changes should improve the overall experience.

There was, however, some frustration among Steam users because the hotfix required them to reinstall the game they had already pre-loaded.
