Control Resonant continues Remedy’s strange supernatural action series, with Dylan Faden taking the lead role as Jesse’s younger brother. This time, the investigation moves beyond the Oldest House and into New York City, where the Hiss remains a serious threat.
Between powerful resonants, altered items and hostile paranatural forces, a little preparation goes a long way. These ten tips will help new players explore more confidently, improve Dylan’s abilities and survive tougher encounters.

1. Reveal each map as soon as possible
New areas initially appear under a layer of fog. Look for the antenna icon marking a pylon: a tall structure fitted with three satellite dishes. Activate the three sensor dishes nearby, then return to the pylon to uncover the local map.
Do not search aimlessly. The dishes mounted on the pylon point towards the sensors, giving you a useful direction for each one.

2. Search every zone for upgrades
Exploration is worthwhile beyond the main objectives. Side quests contain some of the game’s most unusual, amusing and unsettling story moments, while also rewarding you with upgrade materials.
Keep an eye out for health and power upgrade points, too. They increase your maximum health and power, helping you withstand stronger enemies and use more combat abilities. For more gaming and arcade coverage, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog.
3. Treat locked doors as clues
A blocked entrance usually indicates another route, an ability or a nearby objective rather than a permanent dead end. Early doors can be opened in these ways:
- Doors locked from the other side: Find another route, often via a roof, or enter the next zone and return from the opposite side.
- Wooden doors: Destroy the timber with the weapon’s secondary form.
- Garage doors: Find the electrical box with the red light and strike it with your weapon.
- Red growth-covered doors: Defeat the larger enemies nearby, or follow the red trails to their source and eliminate it.
- Mould-covered doors: Burn away the mould.
- Metal doors: Use the Crush secondary weapon or the Ground Slam combat ability.
- Key doors: Search for side quests, since keys are generally obtained through them.
- Security clearance doors: FBC Security Clearance keycards mainly come from the “Contain the Crisis” main quest. Other cards, including those for the Mobile Research Station and Oldest House Storage Room, are found during side quests.
4. Read the documents you collect
The world is packed with notes and files. Reading everything can add several hours to your playthrough, but the material deepens the setting and can sometimes provide a clue for a puzzle you have not reached yet.
5. Return to the Gap regularly
The Gap is your main improvement hub. Use it to upgrade the Aberrant weapon, craft artifacts and unlock talents. Story progress and exploration quickly provide source, materials, reset points and zone XP, so spend those resources when enemies begin dealing noticeably more damage.
On keyboard, press G to access the Gap. On a controller, press down on the D-pad. If you are planning a physical arcade setup for other action games, the arcade machine buying guide is a useful place to start.
6. Locate the vendor in every area
Vendors offer a broad selection of upgrade and crafting materials. Visit one when you need a particular item rather than repeatedly hunting a specific enemy.
Also watch for an ice cream truck. It is always associated with an ice cream stand containing a health point upgrade. As a zone levels up, its vendor gains more stock.

7. Adjust Assist Mode to suit your playthrough
Assist Mode can reduce incoming damage, extend the perfect-dodge window and enable powerful options such as immortality or one-hit kills. It can also make the game more demanding by lowering your damage, increasing incoming damage or making enemies more aggressive.
There is no achievement or trophy penalty for using Assist Mode, even if you complete the game with one-hit kills enabled.
8. Defeat weaker enemies to recover health
During long waves, it is tempting to focus on the largest threat first. Instead, clear out lesser enemies and collect the small blue health fragments they leave behind. This can stabilise your health before you tackle the tougher targets.
9. Complete Faults and defeat resonants for new abilities
Faults provide movement abilities that open up more of Manhattan. Look for routes that climb straight upwards or translucent, light-bending orbs near building edges. Completing a Fault can let you walk on walls and reach those orbs, unlocking further areas. Visions of Jesse indicate that a Fault is nearby.

Resonants are bosses that reward additional combat abilities. At the end of the prologue, the first resonant encounter leads to a choice between three combat abilities. You do not need to defeat every resonant to finish the game, but taking them on gives you more powers and can make later fights easier and more varied.
10. Prepare for a new resonant cycle
Defeating a resonant triggers a new resonant cycle. Enemies return throughout every zone and become somewhat stronger, while additional world feats become available. The increased difficulty also brings better-quality resources.
Before defeating a resonant, consider completing nearby side activities, such as finding the mysterious dog’s toy or tackling world feats. If you have already cleared the enemies from a zone, you can explore it more freely, making side quests and challenges less disruptive.
