Cliff Booth Returns in Tarantino’s First Official Sequel

Cliff Booth returns in Tarantino’s first official sequel

Quentin Tarantino’s cinematic universe is expanding with The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, an official follow-up to Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood. The sequel is directed by David Fincher rather than Tarantino, and shifts the focus to Brad Pitt’s stuntman character.

Fincher, known for films including Se7en and Fight Club, is directing from a screenplay written by Tarantino. The project was previously known as The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the same title used for Tarantino’s forthcoming novel.

When will The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth be released?

The film will receive a limited theatrical preview before its streaming debut. Netflix has scheduled an exclusive two-week IMAX run beginning on 25 November, giving Australian film fans a limited opportunity to seek out a large-format screening where available.

The full movie arrives on Netflix on 23 December. A teaser trailer released in February provided the first public look at the new adventure.

A new decade for Cliff Booth

The original film took place in 1969. This sequel moves forward to 1977, placing Booth in what Netflix describes as “a very different Hollywood”. Pitt reprises the role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The returning star is joined by Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.

For readers who enjoy the craft behind screen storytelling, the sequel’s shift in setting and director may be as significant as its continuation of Booth’s story. Tarantino has not yet disclosed the subject of his tenth and final film as director.

The novel arrives first

Tarantino is also extending Cliff Booth’s story in print. HarperCollins will publish The Adventures of Cliff Booth on Tuesday, 8 December. The book is a novelisation of the character’s further adventures and is separate from the film’s December streaming release.
