A previously unreported AAA Star Wars action RPG has emerged from development limbo, revealing a third-person adventure built around Jedi, Mandalorian-style characters and loot-driven combat.

Known internally by the codename Magellan, the project was reportedly being developed by Echtra Games under Zynga. Development is said to have started in early 2021, before the game was cancelled during the upheaval surrounding Zynga and Take-Two. Echtra Games subsequently closed in 2025.

MP1st reported receiving previously unseen footage of an early build from an Echtra developer. The material shows a Twi’lek Jedi and a Mandalorian-like soldier battling stormtroopers, exploring third-person environments and collecting equipment.

One section describes the design as “shoot and loot”, suggesting that Magellan would have combined character abilities with a steady stream of weapons and gear. The footage also indicates that online multiplayer was planned.

Jedi classes and equipment drops

Players would apparently select different classes, including a Jedi, then use their abilities against droids, stormtroopers and other familiar Star Wars enemies. Despite carrying a lightsaber, the Jedi character appears to use a blaster in the footage, potentially reflecting the game’s gear-based progression.

A character collects “Booster Gear” from a defeated enemy and later searches a chest for additional loot. That system may have allowed players to find and equip new blasters, even when playing as a lightsaber-focused Jedi, although the available footage does not establish the full equipment structure.

A cancelled multiplayer Star Wars adventure

The planned RPG was also said to feature an NPC bonding system. As players completed missions and fought alongside characters, they would apparently have been able to develop relationships with them.

Magellan was reportedly being built in Unreal Engine 5, with PS5, Xbox and PC as its target platforms. Those plans ended after the changes at Zynga and Take-Two led to the project’s cancellation and Echtra’s closure.

Its disappearance adds another unfinished project to the long list of cancelled Star Wars games. That group includes Ragtag, Respawn’s Mandalorian game, Star Wars 1313, a Darth Maul project and Star Wars Battlefront III.

Although Magellan never reached players, its early footage offers a glimpse at a very different direction for the franchise: a cooperative, class-based action RPG where Jedi and Mandalorians could fight side by side while chasing better gear.
