Cad Bane: Still Faster Than You has been suspended from the Premier format in Star Wars Unlimited, ending the leader’s run as one of competitive play’s most influential cards.
The aggressive villain leader arrived in Ashes of the Empire with an ability that could steadily weaken opposing characters and units. That made Cad Bane a serious early-game threat, but his strength became increasingly difficult for competitive players to manage.
Fantasy Flight Games developer Ryan Miles said the data showed Cad Bane was a clear power outlier. The leader was shaping the metagame around itself while continuing to record dominant win rates, prompting the suspension announced through Unlimited’s official website.
Cad Bane became a Premier tournament staple
Cad Bane established himself quickly in Premier events, appearing repeatedly across tournaments and Sector Qualifiers. The leader was also part of the winning deck at the Galactic Championship in Las Vegas the previous month.
His presence continued after that championship, with Cad Bane featuring prominently in further Star Wars Unlimited Sector Qualifiers. The Premier suspension now removes him from that competitive environment, although it does not eliminate the card from the game.
Why was Cad Bane suspended?
Previous Premier suspensions, including War Juggernaut, followed interactions between new cards and existing strategies that unexpectedly increased their power. Cad Bane’s case was different: his dominance appeared almost immediately.
Miles described the result as a development mistake. During testing, the team did not identify Cad Bane as the strongest leader in the Aggression-Vigilance-Villainy shell. It also believed control-focused mirror matches would expose weaknesses that competitive play ultimately failed to reveal.
The testing process also underestimated aggressive strategies capable of defeating greedier control decks. That produced an inaccurate picture of the eventual metagame and created ideal conditions for Cad Bane to thrive.
A growing list of suspended leaders
Cad Bane is not the first leader removed from Premier competition. Boba Fett: Collecting a Bounty was suspended in 2024 after appearing in roughly 40 per cent of Top 8 finishes at Sector Qualifiers.
Other cards later joined the suspended list, including Jango Fett: Concealing the Conspiracy and Han Solo: Audacious Smuggler. Cad Bane’s addition is particularly notable because the leader was keeping an untold number of decks almost entirely outside the competitive metagame.

Cad Bane remains legal in other formats

That leaves Cad Bane players with a difficult trade-off in competitive play. The card’s Premier era is over for now, but removing such a dominant leader may give more strategies room to compete and help create a healthier game.
