Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will return for a third and final season, giving the acclaimed animated revenge drama a clear conclusion. Season two is scheduled to arrive in January 2027.
Season two picks up Mizu’s journey
The announcement was made at Anime NYC on August 20, alongside a 90-second teaser for the second season. The series was renewed shortly after its November 2023 debut, but viewers have waited almost three years to see Maya Erskine’s Mizu continue her search for the men connected to her past.
The new footage revisits the season one finale, in which arms dealer Abijah Fowler, voiced by Kenneth Branagh, convinces Mizu to spare his life. Fowler offers to help her reach London, where two surviving white men may be her father.
The voyage to Europe is immediately threatened when a storm strikes the ship, sending several sailors overboard. Mizu takes control of the vessel, shouting in anger as she recommits herself to revenge.
Fowler becomes an uneasy travelling companion
Mizu later wakes on deck with a sword aimed at her. Fowler appears to be holding it, suggesting he has been freed from the cell where he was confined at the end of season one. Earlier footage shown at the Annecy Festival in June presented the pair as surprisingly close during Mizu’s arrival in Europe.
The available previews have not shown much of Mizu’s former life in Japan, although an earlier look at the season confirmed that those characters remain part of the story. Her apprentice Ringo, played by Masi Oka, is searching for a new purpose, while Princess Akemi, voiced by Brenda Song, faces the demands of royal politics after the Shogun’s death.
A planned ending for the revenge saga
Netflix says the third season is already in production and will be the show’s last. That confirmation should provide some reassurance for fans who have been waiting for the next stage of Mizu’s story, although no further release timing for the final season has been announced.
