The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on 2 September for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. With its open-world role-playing design, branching decisions and links to former The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developers, it is shaping up as one of the clearest successors to CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed RPG.

The Witcher 3 remains widely regarded as one of the finest open-world RPGs ever made, thanks to its world design, storytelling and character development. More than 11 years after release, it still averages over 20,000 concurrent players each day, giving any similarly ambitious fantasy RPG a substantial standard to meet.

A familiar creative pedigree

That comparison is not accidental. Konrad Tomazkiewicz, Rebel Wolves’ co-founder, chief executive and game director, previously served as game director on The Witcher 3. The new studio also includes Jakub Szamalek, the senior writer on Geralt’s latest adventure, and art director Bartłomiej Gaweł.

A vampire story with a ticking clock

Players control Coen, who is human during the day and becomes a vampire at night. The central question is whether he will resist the curse or embrace the supernatural abilities it provides. Alongside that transformation, Coen must try to save his family while making choices that can leave other people behind.

Every completed quest advances an in-game clock. Because time continually moves forward, it will not be possible to experience every quest and outcome in a single playthrough. That structure is intended to make decisions carry genuine consequences rather than simply offering optional dialogue.

The beginning of a larger saga

Tomazkiewicz has said the campaign can run for up to 70 hours. The post-credits scene has already been shown, an unusual situation for an unreleased game, and the developers have described the project as the opening chapter of a saga.

The story begins in the 14th century, while the longer-term plan is to move the saga towards modern times. Choices made in this first game are expected to affect the sequel and later instalments, giving the series a continuing thread similar to the consequence-driven structure associated with The Witcher 3.

Why arcade fans may take notice

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a console and PC RPG rather than a traditional arcade title, but its focus on character choice, replayability and a strong visual identity offers useful inspiration for anyone planning a home gaming space. Those considering a broader setup can explore RETROCADE’s arcade machine range or compare options in the arcade machine buying guide.

For smaller rooms, bartop arcades provide a compact alternative, while virtual pinball machines offer another way to build a dedicated entertainment area around interactive worlds and replayable challenges.
