Blade Runner 2099 has received a new trailer at New York Comic Con, offering a closer look at its central investigation and the uneasy connection between Cora and Olwen.
What the new Blade Runner 2099 trailer reveals
The story begins with a troubling question: what happened to the 38 replicants who disappeared during the previous year? That investigation brings together Cora, a fugitive trying to stay ahead of those pursuing her, and Olwen, a replicant whose life is nearing its end.
The pair eventually uncover a conspiracy involving a criminal replicant organisation. Its members reject the idea that replicants should be expected to behave like humans, setting up a conflict that reaches beyond a conventional missing-person case.
A new mystery in the Blade Runner universe
Showrunner Silka Luisa has described the series as Chinatown transported into the world of Blade Runner. The comparison points to a detective story built around missing people, while the trailer suggests that the investigation will also explore artificial intelligence, identity, humanity and intimacy.
The series stars Hunter Schafer as Cora and Michelle Yeoh as Olwen. Its setting presents a future Los Angeles where replicants, rather than humans, hold the dominant position by 2099.
A new poster carries the tagline, “Welcome to a future we no longer control”, reinforcing the shift in power shown in the trailer.

There is currently no word on a second season. Luisa has said that the eight-episode run tells a complete story in its own right.
