Big Walk’s microphone puzzle is a co-operative audio challenge. Headphones or earbuds make it much easier to identify the correct microphone and complete the sequence.

The puzzle has no official name. You’ll find it just south of the radio station, in the field west of the yellow tower. Look for a red platform with a chair, a set of headphones and six microphone stands.

How to complete the microphone puzzle

The objective is to find the microphone that produces a perfectly balanced sound for the player sitting in the chair.

Before starting, give the chair to the player with the best headphones or earbuds. A professional audio set-up is not required; any pair of earbuds will work.

Test each microphone one at a time

  1. Have one player visit the microphone stands and speak into each microphone.
  2. Only one person should speak at a time. Simultaneous voices can make it difficult to tell which microphone is active.
  3. The player in the chair should listen carefully for the point at which the speaker can be heard clearly in both ears.

Use hand signals to guide the speaker

The seated player needs to signal whether the voice is clear, limited to one ear or coming through both ears. In one playthrough, hearing the speaker only in the left ear was shown by raising the left hand, telling the speaker to move to the right. When the sound was clear in both ears, both arms were raised.

Once the speaker reaches the microphone that sounds balanced, press the button on its stand. Repeat the listening and signalling process until the puzzle is finished.
