Best Buy is extending the Pokémon 30th Anniversary celebrations with a new Trade and Play trading card event. Fans may receive a trading kit and anniversary-themed items, including a possible Mewtwo promo card.

When is Best Buy’s Pokémon TCG event?
The Trade and Play event is scheduled for October 3, from noon until 2pm local time. It will take place at participating Best Buy stores, so availability will vary by location. Check whether your local Best Buy store will host the 30th Anniversary event here.
What Pokémon freebies are planned?
Best Buy has confirmed that attendees will receive a trading kit for exchanging cards with other participants, although the retailer has not yet provided a full list of its contents.
A previous Trade and Play event provides one possible indication of what a kit might include. As noted in a recent Trade and Play event, the package included a Chaos Rising booster pack, a Pikachu promo card, a Pokémon binder and a sleeping Pikachu model.
The October promotion could instead feature 30th Celebration packs or cards from the latest Pokémon set, Pitch Black. The event is scheduled for the day after the 30th Anniversary Booster Bundles go on sale, making celebratory booster packs a possibility rather than a confirmed inclusion.

Could the event include a Mewtwo promo card?
A Mewtwo promo card expected to reach retailers on October 2 is one possible giveaway. Target is also set to distribute the same card during its unofficial Family Day event.
Participation terms may differ between stores. At some previous locations, customers needed to make a purchase to receive the promo card, so the presence of a trading kit does not guarantee that every item will be available without a purchase.
Can adults attend Best Buy’s event?
Unlike Best Buy’s earlier Trade and Play event, the new announcement does not state that participants must be children. That means the October event is not specifically described as a children-only activity.
Trading kits and other giveaways are limited, with items available only while supplies last. At earlier events, promo cards and model kits ran out before card packs, so arriving early may improve your chances of receiving the complete selection.
Why this matters to collectors
Retail trading events give collectors a straightforward way to swap cards, discover promotional releases and meet other players. For Australians following the international Pokémon TCG market, it is also a reminder that event-specific cards and accessories can become important parts of a collection alongside the cards themselves.
