Backrooms 2 may be moving closer to production, with filmmaker Kane Parsons reportedly set to return as director. An official announcement is expected soon, although key production details remain unconfirmed.

Backrooms 2 could be Parsons’ next film
The Backrooms project began with an unsettling image of a seemingly endless, empty interior. Parsons developed that idea into a popular horror series on YouTube before A24 adapted it into a feature film directed by Parsons himself.
The film performed strongly alongside the online series that inspired it. Backrooms grossed nearly $400 million worldwide, approximately 40 times its production budget.

What has been reported about the sequel?
A May interview gave the first substantial indication that Parsons was not finished with the property. He explained that Backrooms had been conceived as a broader series capable of moving beyond the first film, and said his contract included an ongoing hold related to the project.
That suggestion has now been followed by a report from a horror media outlet claiming that an official announcement is imminent. The report also states that Backrooms 2 will be Parsons’ next movie.

In June, industry insider Jeff Sneider claimed Parsons was developing a project with producer Osgood Perkins. At that stage, it was unclear whether the collaboration involved a sequel or an unrelated film. The newer report makes a return to the Backrooms universe appear more likely.
Why the sequel has room to expand the story
The first film’s ending left space for additional mythology, unanswered questions and new locations beyond its original setting. Parsons has discussed the ending, but a follow-up could explore the wider lore over one film or several instalments.
There is still no confirmed release date, production schedule or detailed story outline. Until an official announcement arrives, Parsons’ involvement should be treated as reported rather than formally confirmed.
