Spoilers for Avatar: Seven Havens episodes 4, 5 and 6 follow.

Ellora is close to collapse. Across the latest three episodes, the post-apocalyptic haven faces growing unrest, attacks from the Faceless, government secrecy and a frightening condition linked to the entity known as the Anomaly.

The story still has not explained how Korra caused the Cataclysm, why the Avatar appears to have been reborn as twins Pavi (Saheli Khan) and Nisha (Aishu Devan), or what happened to their parents. Episode 6 nevertheless provides important clues about all three mysteries.

What is the Anomaly?

A powerful storm previously struck Ellora alongside a diamond-shaped spirit creature. In its wake, bright red cubes began pushing out of the ground. They continue to spread, resembling the spirit vines seen during Korra’s era, but their effect on people is far more dangerous than their appearance suggests.

Ellora has established a sick ward for citizens called the Afflicted. Those exposed to the cubes suffer overwhelming fear and violent hallucinations. Bountan, a firebender and former Bending Brigade commander, is among the worst affected after encountering the Anomaly spirit in episode 2.

When Pavi and Nisha enter the ward with Karthik (Akshay Khanna), the Afflicted react with immediate violence. Through their eyes, the twins appear as red-eyed, grinning demons. Bountan leads the infected through the hospital, turning the confrontation into a dangerous attack involving multiple benders.

The twins respond very differently. Nisha quickly stops an Afflicted person by trapping them in stone. Pavi recognises that another victim is frightened and uses earthbending to shelter him inside a protective cocoon. Pavi’s restraint recalls Aang, while Nisha’s more forceful instincts echo Korra. Karthik begins to understand that fear is not merely a symptom of the condition; it may be the force driving it.

That discovery helps explain why the crisis is spreading. Benders, including Jae’s squadmate Yuki, are being kidnapped by masked raiders called the Faceless. At the same time, rumours of the Avatar’s return are circulating after a soldier witnesses the twins use several elements in episode 4. Many citizens suspect Chancellor Kayoko (Jennifer Sun Bell) and the Bending Brigade are concealing the truth, particularly because the public believes the previous Avatar destroyed the world.

The episode’s major confrontation comes when the Anomaly returns during a fight between Karthik and the Afflicted Bountan. As the battle moves through a ward filled with injured patients, Pavi and Nisha subdue Bountan just as red lightning spreads across the floor.

Bountan warns Karthik that the Spirit World has unleashed its wrath and that Ellora’s fate rests with him. The entity then overwhelms Karthik. When the twins confront it, its energy strikes their hands and lifts the creature until it is parallel with the ground. The encounter transports them into another memory before the diamond-shaped entity passes through them and vanishes. Karthik later identifies what they have done as Energy Bending.

What does the memory reveal about Pavi and Nisha’s parents?

The Anomaly affects the twins differently from everyone else. Instead of becoming Afflicted, they recover pieces of their lost history whenever they directly interact with it.

In the new memory, the girls are sleeping while their parents speak nearby. Their mother asks how long a journey will take, and their father answers that it will be two weeks if they can survive the Harshlands. She worries that they may be making the wrong choice, but he insists they have no alternative.

Avatar Seven Havens memory

The clues point towards an event three years earlier. In episode 5, Karthik explains that he received an illegal message directing him to a meeting place, where he was told to find a girl wearing a bracelet with a green gem. A sudden storm delayed him. When he arrived, Nisha was there alone.

The twins’ earlier vision showed four figures crossing the Harshlands, an Anomaly storm and one of the girls—probably Pavi—falling. Episode 6 adds another significant detail: Pavi believes she was born without the lower part of her left leg, but a doctor identifies her pain as phantom-limb pain and concludes that the injury occurred within the past few years.

Nothing has been confirmed, but the evidence suggests that the missing memories, Pavi’s injury, the disappearance of the twins’ parents and Karthik finding Nisha alone may all stem from the same incident in the Harshlands three years ago. It remains unclear whether that event was the twins’ first encounter with the Anomaly or something separate.

A lullaby adds another unresolved thread. The twins remember the tune in episode 4, and Daemin (Darren Barnet) recognises it as a song Uki, a firebender in Jae’s squad, sings regularly. Uki was tracking the Faceless before being abducted, so the twins have not yet been able to discover whether the song connects her to their family.

Why does Chancellor Kayoko contact the other Havens?

After the latest Anomaly encounter, Kayoko uses a radio tower to send a message across the shattered world: “This is Ellora calling any and all Havens. We need you.”

Karthik had already made illegal contact with at least one other Haven, called “Akasha”, although the spelling remains uncertain. He appears to have been warning White Lotus contacts as reports of the Avatar spread. He had also urged Kayoko to seek help beyond Ellora.

The Chancellor finally acts after a small riot in which frightened benders voice their anger. Jae persuades her to request assistance, an increasingly urgent move as the Faceless abduct benders and the Afflicted crisis grows.

Although the series introduces seven Havens, its story has so far stayed almost entirely within Ellora, with little of the Harshlands shown. Kayoko’s broadcast could therefore expand the story beyond the isolated settlement and introduce the other Havens at last.

Whether anyone answers is unknown. The central questions remain: what happened in the Harshlands three years ago, and why does the Anomaly want Pavi and Nisha to remember?
