Streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt says Twitch has suspended one of his channels for 14 days, although he claims the platform has not explained the specific reason. He suspects the action followed comments about using lethal force against people crossing national borders without authorisation.
Hoyt discussed the suspension in a new YouTube video after initially remaining silent about his absence. He said Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, did not provide an explanation and that he is piecing together the likely cause from the public reaction.
What Asmongold says led to the ban
During a recent rant, Hoyt argued that people attempting to cross borders illegally should be stopped with lethal force. His remarks included women and children, as well as men, and were delivered to an audience of millions.
He said Twitch had previously emailed him about less serious content violations, including an accidental appearance of material that should not have been shown on stream. In those cases, he was able to acknowledge the mistake. This time, he says, no comparable message arrived.
“I actually don’t even know this is why I got banned,” Hoyt said, while suggesting that the comments were probably responsible.
The streamer’s account of the suspension has circulated widely online, including through a social-media post discussing his comments.
He says he will change his tone, not his position
Hoyt said he would try to moderate his delivery to reduce the risk of further suspensions. However, he also stated that he was not withdrawing the views that prompted the controversy.
“I apologize for absolutely nothing,” Hoyt said. He added that he might “tone it down a little bit” because he does not want to be suspended repeatedly.
The comments have renewed debate about how Twitch applies its community rules. The platform began primarily as a video-game streaming service, but its largest creators now also host discussions about politics and social issues. That broader content mix has placed Twitch in increasingly difficult moderation disputes.
Hoyt, who was once especially associated with World of Warcraft streams, has faced criticism over what commentators describe as increasingly extreme and racist views. His position has been discussed in an online discussion of the controversy.
Twitch has not publicly explained the suspension
